Apples are among the most important fruits worldwide and the most consumed fruit in Germany. Due to higher energy and personnel costs, domestic apples are more expensive and thus offer an incentive for mixing with foreign goods. Moreover, imported apples have a higher carbon footprint, which is an obstacle regarding sales in times of climate change.

The Schiff base chelating ligands; (E)-2-(3,3-dimethoxy-2-oxa-7,10-diaza-3-silaundec-10-en-11-yl)phenol (L1), (E)-N-(2-((pyridine-2ylmethylene)amino)ethyl)-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propan-1-amine (L2) and (E)-N-(2-((thiophen-2-ylmethylene)amino)ethyl)-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propan-1-amine (L3) were immobilized on FeO magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) and utilized in the extraction of Cr(VI), Cd(II) and Pb(II) metal cations from aqueous solutions. The compounds synthesized, denoted as L1@ FeO, L2@FeO, and L3@FeO, were characterized using FT-IR spectroscopy, TEM-SEM, VSM, and BET/BHJ techniques for analysis of functional groups, surface morphology, magnetic properties, and degree of porosity of the adsorbents, respectively. BET/BHJ technique confirmed the mesoporous nature of the compounds as their pore diameters ranged between 15 and 17 nm.

Background: Extralevator abdominoperineal excision (ELAPE) is a relatively new surgical technique for low rectal cancers, enabling a more radical approach than conventional abdominoperineal excision (APE) with a potentially better oncological outcome. To date, no standard exists for reconstruction after extended or extralevator approaches of abdominoperineal (ELAPE) resection for lower gastrointestinal cancer or inflammatory tumors. In the recent literature, techniques with myocutaneous flaps, such as the VY gluteal flap, the pedicled gracilis flap, or the pedicled rectus abdominis flaps (VRAM) are primarily described.

(1) Background: Perioperative Antibiotics for acute complicated appendicitis are a standard of care. While there are plenty of trials for pediatric patients, data for elderly patients are scarce. The goal of our study was to evaluate whether elderly patients carry more resistant bacteria and thus have less favorable outcomes after an appendectomy that may warrant intensified perioperative antibiotic treatment (2) We present a retrospective single-center matched pair (139 patients each) analysis of perioperative and microbiological outcomes of an elderly appendicitis cohort (i.

This article introduces the concept of "flexible reactivity" to describe and analyze a form of economic actors' response to multiple judgment devices. Using the example of government regulation in the Tuscan wine industry, we show that wineries can in part comply with the government's quality classifications system while, at the same time, also offering products outside the official classification system. Through this research, we provide novel insights into the role of judgment devices and contribute to a more nuanced understanding of organizational responses to institutional pressures.
