This editorial highlights the importance of catheterisation documentation and the practice of trials without catheters in improving patient outcomes in Pakistan. Acute urinary retention, a major urological emergency, needs short-term catheter placement, with a trial without a catheter used globally to reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections. This procedure, often enhanced by alpha-1 blockers, enables patients to regain continence and promotes micturition post-catheterisation, particularly useful following surgeries such as prostatectomy.

Although the basal ganglia (BG) plays a central role in the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, few studies have investigated the influence of parkinsonism on movement-related activity in the BG. Here, we studied the perimovement activity of neurons in globus pallidus internus (GPi) of non-human primates before and after the induction of parkinsonism by administration of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). Neuronal responses were equally common in the parkinsonian brain as seen prior to MPTP and the distribution of different response types was largely unchanged.

Clove essential oil (CEO) exhibited potent antibacterial efficacy and are obtained from Eugenia caryophyllata tree flower buds. Herein, CEO nanoemulsions were prepared using various concentrations of casein protein treated with ultrasound for different time interval. The study demonstrated that CEO nanoemulsions with 5% casein protein subjected to ultrasound for 10 min displayed the most minimal particle size.

We report here the results of an experimental investigation of the electronic properties and photocurrent responses of the CaFeO and LaOFeO phases and a computational study of the electronic structure of polar CaFeOSe. We find that both CaFeO ( = S and Se) have band gaps and conduction band edge positions compatible with light-driven photocatalytic water splitting, although the oxysulfide suffers from degradation due to the oxidation of Fe sites. The higher O/ ratio in the Fe coordination environment in CaFeOSe increases its stability without increasing the band gap beyond the visible range.

We present a combined experimental and computational study on the recently reported oxysulfide SrCdSbSO. Our spectroscopy and photoelectrochemical measurements and tests for photocatalytic activity indicate the potential of SrCdSbSO for photocatalytic applications. In particular, the transient photocurrent response shows a reproducible photogenerated current which depends on light intensity and which indicates an efficient electron-hole separation upon visible light illumination.

Polyoxothiometalate ions (ThioPOM) are active hydrogen-evolution reaction (HER) catalysts based on modular assembly built from electrophilic clusters {MoS } and vacant polyoxotungstates. Herein, the dumbbell-like anion [{(PW O )Mo S (H O) (OH)} ] exhibits very high light-driven HER activity, while the active cores {Mo S } do not contain any exposed disulfido ligands, which were suspected to be the origin of the HER activity. Moreover, in the catalyst architecture, the two central {Mo S } cores are sandwiched by two {PW O } subunits that act as oxidant-resistant protecting groups and behave as electron-collecting units.

The development of hybrid materials based on polyoxometalates constitutes a strategy for the design of multifunctional materials. The slow evaporation of an aqueous solution of [NaPWO] in the presence of γ-Cyclodextrin (γ-CD) led to the crystallization of a KNa{[NaPWO]•(CHO)}•23HO () supramolecular compound, which was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR-spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and elemental analyses. Structural analysis revealed the formation of 1:1 {[NaPWO]•[γ-CD]} adduct in the solid state.

This work demonstrates the synthesis and characterization of core-shell magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers based on surface imprinting using methacryloyl chloride as a functional monomer for the selective extraction of imidacloprid (template) from apple fruit. The characterization analysis results ensured the successful synthesis of the magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers owing to their heterogeneous structure and good magnetic properties. An isothermal binding test was assessed with a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the kinetic results fit well to the Freundlich isothermal model.
