Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) encompasses rare variants like chromophobe hepatocellular carcinoma (CHCC) characterized by distinct histological features and molecular profiles.
Case Report: A 56-year-old male with chronic hepatitis C, presenting pain in the right hypochondrium. Imaging revealed a solitary liver lesion, subsequently resected and histologically diagnosed as HCC.
Background: Surgery after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (CT) improves the prognosis of colorectal liver metastases (CRLM).
Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive factors of the histological response of CRLM after neoadjuvant treatment.
Methods: A retrospective monocentric study including patients with CRLM operated after neoadjuvant treatment.
There are conflicting data on the weight-reducing potential of metformin (MTF) in nondiabetic patients with obesity. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of MTF on weight and cardiometabolic parameters in adults with overweight/obesity with or without nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (CRD42018085512). We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in adults without diabetes mellitus, with mean body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m, with or without NAFLD, comparing MTF to placebo/control, lifestyle modification (LSM) or a US Food and Drug Administration-approved anti-obesity drug, reporting on weight or metabolic parameters, and extending over at least 3 months.

Less than 50 cases have been reported in the literature. The aim of our study was to describe the clinicopathological features of this association.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFOver the past decades, obesity has grown to epidemic proportions worldwide. It has been associated with an increased risk for different types of cancer. In addition, obesity has been associated with a poor prognosis, an increased risk of metastasis and mortality, and resistance to anti-cancer therapies.

Methods: The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) database years 2005-2014 were used for the derivation cohort. A stepwise multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted, and the final model was validated with an independent cohort from the ACS-NSQIP database years 2015-2017.
Context: The growing number of systematic reviews/meta-analyses (SR/MAs) on vitamin D (± calcium) for fracture prevention has led to contradictory guidelines.
Objective: This umbrella review aims to assess the quality and explore the reasons for the discrepancy of SR/MAs of trials on vitamin D supplementation for fracture risk reduction in adults.
Methods: We searched 4 databases (2010-2020), Epistemonikos, and references of included SRs/MAs, and we contacted experts in the field.
Context: Guidelines for the dosage of vitamin D supplementation vary widely globally.
Objective: To investigate the impact of 2 vitamin D doses, bracketed between the IOM recommended dietary allowance (RDA) and the upper tolerable limit, on vitamin D nutritional status in elderly individuals.
Methods: This post hoc analysis of data collected from a 12-month, double-blind, randomized control trial included 221 ambulatory participants (≥ 65 years) with a mean BMI of 30.
Background: Sepsis and septic shock are the major causes of morbidity and mortality in Intensive care Units (ICUs) in low and middle-income countries. However, little is known about their prevalence and outcome in these settings. The study aimed to assess the prevalence and outcome of sepsis and septic shock in ICUs in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Despite remarkable developments in recognition of bladder carcinogenesis and prognostic factors, the recurrence rate is still high. Thus, identification of novel biomarkers involved in tumor cell invasion and metastatic dissemination is a constant challenge.

In patients with breast cancer, its prognostic value is still controversial, given the discrepancy of results. The purpose of the study was to study CD10 expression in stromal cells of patients with breast cancer as well as to evaluate the prognostic value of this expression.

Their expression is tightly controlled given their essential role in normal tissue homeostasis, whereas their deregulation leads to chronic inflammation, and even cancer. This study aimed to assess the expression profiles of MUC1 and MUC5AC and their implications in colorectal carcinogenesis.

Its sclerosing variant is a rare entity, which is described in the latest WHO edition of soft tissues in association with the spindle cell subtype, with which it shares clinical, morphological and cytogenetic features. Cytogenetic advances have allowed a prognostic approach to fusiform/sclerosing cell rhabdomyosarcoma by individualizing 3 different genomic prognostic groups.

This objective is a real challenge requiring the research of predictive factors for this response, from the perspective of targeted therapeutic strategies. The results of the various studies focused on these predictive factors are discordant.
