7-Hydroxycoumarin (CAS 93-35-6, 7-HC) is the main coumarin (1,2-benzopyrone) metabolite and the therapeutic active molecule. It exhibits antioxidant properties in vitro and may share with other coumarin derivatives vasodilator effects. The aim of the study was to assess the effects of 7-HC on isolated perfused and ischemic-reperfused rat heart.

A simple and rapid high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method with UV detection is described for the simultaneous determination of inulin and PAH in the same chromatogram in the plasma and urine of humans. Plasma and urine samples were hydrolyzed with perchloric acid (0.

A modified method for the determination of gacyclidine enantiomers in human plasma by GC-MS with selected-ion monitoring using the deuterated derivative of gacyclidine (d3-gacyclidine) as internal standard was developed. Following a single-step liquid-liquid extraction with hexane, drug enantiomers were separated on a chiral fused-silica capillary column (CP-Chirasil-Dex; Chrompack). The fragment ion, m/z 266, was selected for monitoring d3-gacyclidine (retention times of 35.

Two main classes of leukotriene modulators have been developed: CysLT1 receptor antagonists and leukotriene synthesis inhibitors. This article reviews the pharmacodynamics, the effects on baseline airway function, the protective effects in airway challenges as well as the results in chronic asthma of the different leukotriene modulators.

Airflow obstruction results from contraction of airway smooth muscle, mucosal oedema, increased secretion of mucus and infiltration of the airway wall by inflammatory cells, particularly eosinophils. Leukotrienes are thought to contribute to the pathophysiology of asthma.

Purpose: To determine the effects of amifostine on an isolated perfused rat-heart model and its protective activity with regard to cardiotoxic doxorubicin perfusion.
Methods: Langendorff constant-pressure isolated rat-heart preparations were used to analyze the effects of the drugs during a 40-min period of perfusion after a 20-min stabilization interval. The first study was conducted with amifostine alone (controls and 10(-6), 10(-5), and 10(-4) M amifostine; n=6 in each group).
The occurrence of multidrug resistance (MDR) is the major cause of failure of cancer chemotherapy. Finding a way to circumvent this problem is now a major challenge in oncology. Multidrug resistant CEM/VLB100 cells accumulate 10 times less vinblastine (VLB) after 30 min than their sensitive counterparts (CEM cells).
