The article presents a case of complicated viral conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis was the initial sign of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in the patient. The disease had a fairly long course and led to symmetrical scarring in the form of partial external symblepharon and dry eye syndrome.

The review presents the characteristics and results of clinical studies on implantation of different types of macular lenses (IOL-VIP system, Lipschitz Macular Implant (LMI), Fresnel Prism Intraocular, IOL AMD) installed in the capsular bag after phacoemulsification in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The literature review shows that up to now, the data on implantation of these lenses was contradictory and generally based only on short-term results. There are quite strict criteria for the selection of patients to evaluate the maximum possible postoperative visual rehabilitation of patients using special programs, the effectiveness of which largely depends on their commitment to postoperative, sometimes long-term treatment.

A comparison of the effects of the 6-(2-chloro-6-fluorobenzyl)-2-(alkylthio)pyrimidin-4(3H)-ones (2-Cl-6-F-S-DABOs) 7-12 and the related 6-(2,6-difluorobenzyl) counterparts 13-15 in HIV-1 infected cells and in the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) assays is here described. The new 2-Cl-6-F-S-DABOs showed up to picomolar activity against wt HIV-1. Against clinically relevant HIV-1 mutants and in enzyme assays, the simultaneous C5(methyl)/C6(methyl/ethyl) substitution in the 2-Cl-6-F- and 2,6-F2-benzyl series furnished compounds with the highest, wide-spectrum inhibitory activity against HIV-1.

Neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is one of the most severe form of refractory glaucoma. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one of the strongest promoters of angiogenesis and was found to be the main neovascularization regulator. The use of anti-VEGF-agents is a rational option because in the majority of cases it allows to reach disappearance or reduction of neovascularization, that significantly reduces the risk of complications in following surgery or laser treatment of NVG.

Stream water chemistry were analyzed across Vatinsky Egan River Catchment (West Siberia). The objective of the study is to reveal the spatial and seasonal variations of the water quality and to assess the anthropogenic chemical inputs into the river system. Stream chemistry were monitored in 24 sampling sites for a period extended from January 2002 to December 2005.

Amplification of broadband frequency-modulated (FM) pulses in high-efficiency materials such as ytterbium-doped strontium fluorapatite results in significant gain narrowing, leading to reduced on-target bandwidths for beam smoothing and to conversion from frequency modulation to amplitude modulation (AM). To compensate for these effects, we have applied precision spectral sculpting, requiring both amplitude and phase shaping, to the amplification of broadband FM pulses in narrow-band gain media. We have demonstrated sculpting for centerline small-signal gains of 10(4), producing amplified pulses that have both sufficient bandwidths for on-target beam smoothing and temporal profiles that have no potentially damaging AM.
