Expression and stable germline transmission of neomycin-resistance gene in transgenic mice.

Transgenic mice were produced to study the expression of amino-3' glycosyl phosphotransferase gene (neomycin resistance gene) in the embryonic fibroblast cells. A 1.9 Kb linear fragment of neomycin resistance gene under the control of pPGK promoter was microinjected into the pronucleus of mouse embryos.

A case of isolated right ventricular infarction in a young female with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is reported. This case highlights the importance of detailed evaluation of right ventricle in cases with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

A solvent extraction-atomic absorption technique for the simultaneous determination of low concentrations of iron, nickel, chromium and manganese in drinking water.

A simple and rapid method has been developed for the extraction of Fe, Ni, Cr and Mn in drinking water samples with a new reagent, pentamethylene dithiocarbamate, into methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) and their subsequent determination by atomic-absorption spectrometry. The extraction has been carried out at a high aqueous: organic phase ratio to achieve a 35-fold preconcentration factor. Extraction parameters and interference factors are discussed.

Anthropometric indices independent of age for nutritional assessment in schoolchildren.

The merits of three indices based on weight (W) and height (H) were examined in the age group six to 15 years: W/H, W/H2, W/H3. The analysis was based ona survey of 1673 schoolchildren of both sexes from a rural housing block in Delhi. It showed that the index W/H2 was invariant with age in the range six to 15 years and that the other two indices were biased with respect to age.

The structure and cytochemistry of the neurosecretory cells in Ocypoda platytarsis Milne Edwards (Crustacea: Brachyura).

Four types of NS cells ('A', 'B', 'C' and 'D') in the brain, thoracic ganglion and four types ('alpha', 'beta', 'gamma' and 'delta') in the eye-stalk of Ocypoda platytarsis have been encountered. The cells in the brain occur in groups. Five groups have been noticed in the brain.

A study of 1500 male students at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India was conducted to establish the prevalence and related social and behavioural aspects of venereal diseases. The prevalence was found to be 3.93 per cent.
