The submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) into the sea is known to alter various biotic and abiotic properties of coastal waters. However, its influence on the lower trophic levels, namely, meiofauna, is poorly understood. This study highlights the impact of SGD on the density, distribution, and diversity of intertidal meiofaunal communities along the subterranean estuaries (STEs) of the southwest coast of India (Arabian Sea).

Statement Of The Problem: Dentin bonding with etch-and-rinse adhesives involves demineralizing the 5-8µm of the surface dentin to create micro space for resin infiltration. The presence of continuous fluid movement in dentin tubules and positive pulpal pressure prevents complete water replacement by resin monomers. This results in areas of demineralized dentin, which contain collagen fibers without resin infiltration.

The application of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy in solid tumors is hindered by life-threatening toxicities resulting from on-target, off-tumor killing of nonmalignant cells that express low levels of the target antigen. Mesothelin (MSLN) has been identified as a target antigen for CAR T cell treatment of mesothelioma, lung, ovarian, and other cancers because of its high expression on tumor cells and limited expression on mesothelial cells. However, fatal off-tumor toxicity of high-affinity MSLN-targeting CAR T cells has been reported in multiple clinical trials.

Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), in particular MoS, have garnered a lot of interest due to their unique properties and potential applications. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is generally used to synthesize 2D films of MoS. The synthesis of MoS is highly sensitive to growth parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, precursor ratio, etc.

The article reports the synthesis of an ordered mesoporous network of heterophase TiO monoliths as a visible light-responsive photocatalyst using tri-block copolymers of Pluronic F108, P123 and F127 as structure-directing agents (SDAs) and temperature-controlled calcination (450-650 °C) has been carried out by direct templating-assisted hydrothermal approach. The structural/surface morphology and topographical properties of the photocatalyst are characterized using FE-SEM-EDAX, HR-TEM-SAED, p-XRD, VB-XPS, PLS, TG/DTA, UV-Vis-DRS, BET/BJH and zeta potential analysis. The undoped heterophase mesoporous TiO monoliths with in-built lattice/surface defects exhibit visible light photocatalytic properties, successfully dissipating Reactive Brown 10 (RB-10) dye.

An 83-year-old man with a history of monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance, macrocytic anemia, and cytopenias presented with hemorrhagic bullae on his left hand, alongside intermittent fevers and joint pain. Laboratory findings indicated anemia, elevated mean corpuscular volume, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, and a high C-reactive protein level. A biopsy of the bullae showed neutrophilic dermatosis, and computed tomography scans of the thorax revealed lung opacities and mediastinal lymphadenopathy, suggesting neutrophilic alveolitis.

Article Synopsis
  • Survival rates for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) are low due to late diagnosis, prompting research into early molecular changes that could aid in earlier detection.
  • The study examined esophageal biopsies from individuals with Tylosis with esophageal cancer (TOC), a syndrome linked to higher ESCC risk, identifying significant transcriptional changes that were also seen in ESCC.
  • Results indicated that these early changes may be crucial in understanding how sporadic ESCC develops and highlighted specific upregulated genes like Keratin 17 that could serve as potential biomarkers.

Article Synopsis
  • Stroke was the second leading cause of death worldwide in 2019, with clopidogrel being a common antiplatelet medication used for prevention in stroke patients, though responses to the drug can vary significantly among individuals.
  • Clopidogrel resistance, where the drug fails to effectively inhibit blood clotting, is linked to genetic factors, particularly the CYP2C19 gene, with certain variants (CYP2C19 *2 and *3) affecting treatment outcomes and overall patient prognosis.
  • Various testing methods, such as platelet aggregation tests and blood assays, are used to identify clopidogrel resistance, and patients who do not respond well to clopidogrel may benefit from alternative medications like ticagrelor

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains one of the deadliest solid cancers and thus identifying more effective therapies is a major unmet need. In this study we characterized the super enhancer (SE) landscape of human PDAC to identify novel, potentially targetable, drivers of the disease. Our analysis revealed that is a super enhancer-associated gene in human PDAC.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs that play crucial roles in gene regulation, exerting post-transcriptional silencing, thereby influencing cellular function, development, and disease. Traditional loss-of-function methods for studying miRNA functions, such as miRNA inhibitors and sponges, present limitations in terms of specificity, transient effects, and off-target effects. Similarly, CRISPR/Cas9-based editing of miRNAs using single guide RNAs (sgRNAs) also has limitations in terms of design space for generating effective gRNAs.
