The Oak Ridge National Laboratory is planning to build the Second Target Station (STS) at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). STS will host a suite of novel instruments that complement the First Target Station's beamline capabilities by offering an increased flux for cold neutrons and a broader wavelength bandwidth. A novel neutron imaging beamline, named the Complex, Unique, and Powerful Imaging Instrument for Dynamics (CUPI2D), is among the first eight instruments that will be commissioned at STS as part of the construction project.

In many countries, the lock-down due to the COVID-19 pandemic triggered discussions on the use of digital interaction formats for academic exchange. The pace with which researchers adopted digital formats for conferences, lectures, and meetings revealed that currently available tools can substitute many of the physical interactions in the workplace. It also showed that academics are willing to use digital tools for scientific exchange.

Practical guidelines for the treatment of patellar fractures in adults.

The role of the patella is paramount in the transmission of the quadriceps muscle forces, the increase of the lever arm, the distribution of the forces on the trochlea and the centring of the extensor apparatus. Despite the low incidence of patellar factures in comparison with other lower limb fractures, the painful and functional complications, such as knee stiffness, loss of extension and patellofemoral osteoarthritis, can be very disabling and will often compromise the return to a professional or recreational activity and induce falls in the elderly population. Treatment can be conservative or surgical, provided that it is adapted to the type of fracture.

The durability and serviceability of concrete structures is influenced by both the early-age behavior of concrete as well as its long-term response in terms of shrinkage and creep. Hygro-thermo-chemo-mechanical models, as they are used in the present publication, offer the possibility to consistently model the behavior of concrete from the first hours to several years. However, shortcomings of the formulation based on effective stress, which is usually employed in such multiphase models, were identified.

The Role of Attitude Strength in Behavioral Spillover: Attitude Matters-But Not Necessarily as a Moderator.

Studies on how one behavior affects subsequent behaviors find evidence for two opposite trends: Sometimes a first behavior increases the likelihood of engaging in additional behaviors that contribute to the same goal (positive behavioral spillover), and at other times a first behavior decreases this likelihood (negative spillover). A factor that may explain both patterns is attitude strength. A stronger (more favorable) attitude toward an issue may make the connections between related behaviors more salient and increase the motivation to work toward the underlying goal.

Hygro-thermo-chemo-mechanical modelling of time-dependent concrete behavior requires the accurate determination of a large set of parameters. In this paper, the parameters of a multiphase model are calibrated based on a comprehensive set of experiments for a particular concrete of grade C30/37. The experiments include a calorimetry test, tests for age-dependent mechanical properties, tests for determining the water desorption isotherm, shrinkage tests, and compressive creep tests.

Background: In the PEPCAD-DES trial late lumen loss and the need for repeat target lesion revascularization (TLR) was significantly reduced with PCB angioplasty compared with plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) in patients with drug-eluting stent in-stent restenosis (DES-ISR) at 6 months. We evaluated whether the clinical benefit of reduced TLR and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) was maintained up to 3 years.

Background: Continuation and maintenance electroconvulsive therapy (c/m ECT) is a long-term treatment option in severely and chronically ill patients with mood disorders, who are unresponsive or intolerant to medication. Due to the current lack of empirical studies, c/m ECT is still a clinical tool with little evidence.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients' charts who received c/m ECT over a 10-year period.

Hand in hand: public endorsement of climate change mitigation and adaptation.

This research investigated how an individual's endorsements of mitigation and adaptation relate to each other, and how well each of these can be accounted for by relevant social psychological factors. Based on survey data from two European convenience samples (N = 616 / 309) we found that public endorsements of mitigation and adaptation are strongly associated: Someone who is willing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (mitigation) is also willing to prepare for climate change impacts (adaptation). Moreover, people endorsed the two response strategies for similar reasons: People who believe that climate change is real and dangerous, who have positive attitudes about protecting the environment and the climate, and who perceive climate change as a risk, are willing to respond to climate change.

Emotions while awaiting lung transplantation: A comprehensive qualitative analysis.

Patients awaiting lung transplantation are at risk of negative emotional and physical experiences. How do they talk about emotions? Semi-structured interviews were performed (15 patients). Categorical analysis focusing on emotion-related descriptions was organized into positive-negative-neutral descriptions: for primary and secondary emotions, evaluation processes, coping strategies, personal characteristics, emotion descriptions associated with physical states, (and) contexts were listed.

Completed egoism and intended altruism boost healthy food choices.

Based on the self-licensing literature and goal theory, we expected and found that completed (im)moral actions lead to markedly different food choices (Studies 1 & 2) than intended (im)moral actions (Study 2). In Study 1, people more often chose healthy over unhealthy food options when they recalled a completed egoistic action than when they recalled a completed altruistic action. Study 2 confirmed this finding and furthermore showed that the self-licensing effect in food choices is moderated by the action stage (completed versus intended) of the moral or immoral action.
