Objectives: The complex life experience of speaking two or more languages has been suggested to preserve cognition in older adulthood. This study aimed to investigate this further by examining the relationship between multilingual experience variables and cognitive functioning in a large cohort of older adults in the diversely multilingual north of the Netherlands.
Method: 11,332 older individuals participating in the Lifelines Cohort Study completed a language experience questionnaire.
Backgrounds: Post-dilatation after stenting with a non-compliant (NC) balloon can be used to improve overall percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) result. Due to lack of evidence on the effect of post-dilatation on adverse clinical endpoints there is no consensus whether post-dilatation should be used routinely. The aim of the current study was to determine the contemporary practice of post-dilatation.

Although the TTR highly depends on the organization, individual combined with organizational strategies that advance adaptation are rarely investigated. This study explores residents' strategies and experiences with organizational strategies to help them adapt to residency.

Within clinician-scientists' networks, knowledge sharing is thought to play a vital role in the continuing professional development of themselves and their colleagues. However, little is known about networks of clinician-scientists and how this impacts continuing professional development.

This study investigated the impact of language learning in comparison to other complex learning activities on cognitive functioning and psychosocial well-being in cognitively healthy, community-dwelling older adults. In a randomized controlled trial, 43 Dutch functionally monolinguals aged 65-78 completed a three-month English course ( = 15), music training ( = 13), or a lecture series ( = 15). Cognitive functioning (global cognition, cognitive flexibility, episodic memory, working memory, verbal fluency, and attention) and psychosocial well-being were assessed before and immediately after the intervention, and at a four-month follow-up.

We investigated the development of professional commitment over time and its relation to work experiences of novice nurses. We used a longitudinal mixed-method approach based on weekly reported quantitative commitment scores and qualitative descriptions of experiences. Specifically, we examined turning points in commitment trajectories and analyzed qualitative characteristics of the turning point.

The Paris criteria are commonly used to identify these patients; however, the optimal diagnostic criteria are unknown. We aimed to evaluate the use and clinical relevance of both Paris and Zhang criteria.

However, literature regarding associations of ADs' treatment effect and/or side effects with drug metabolizing genes CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 has yielded inconsistent results. Therefore, our aim was to longitudinally investigate associations between CYP2D6 (poor, intermediate, and normal) and CYP2C19 (poor, intermediate, normal, and ultrarapid) metabolizer-status, and switching/discontinuing of ADs.

However, the manual assessment of these characteristics is time-consuming and subject to inter-observer bias. Alternatively, a recently introduced fully automated deep learning-based algorithm can be used to consistently estimate full thrombus characteristics.

In this study, the course and treatment of MetS was investigated using longitudinal data from a naturalistic sample of affective- and anxiety-disordered outpatients (Monitoring Outcome of psychiatric PHARmacotherapy [MOPHAR]).
Methods: Demographics, clinical characteristics, medication use, and MetS components were obtained for n = 2098 patients at baseline and, in a FU-subsample of n = 507 patients, after a median follow-up (FU) of 11 months.
Introduction: We have shown in a Phase I trial that immediate adjuvant chemotherapy (IAC) during surgical resection and immediately postoperative is safe and feasible in patients with colon cancer (CC). IAC avoids delays in adjuvant treatment and has the potential to improve survival and quality of life. We aim to determine patients and providers attitudes toward this novel multidisciplinary treatment approach.

Unobtrusive long-term monitoring of cardiac parameters is important in a wide variety of clinical applications, such as the assesment of acute illness severity and unobtrusive sleep monitoring. Here we determined the accuracy and robustness of heartbeat detection by an accelerometer worn on the chest.

Objective: To assess the combined association of race and ethnicity and sex with rates of promotion and attrition among US academic medical department of surgery faculty.
Importance: Weight loss induced by bariatric surgery (BS) is associated with improved cognition and changed brain structure; however, previous studies on the association have used small cohorts and short follow-up periods, making it difficult to determine long-term neurological outcomes associated with BS.
Objective: To investigate long-term associations of weight loss after BS with cognition and brain structure and perfusion.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This cohort study included participants from the Bariatric Surgery Rijnstate and Radboudumc Neuroimaging and Cognition in Obesity study.
System planning across economic sectors is becoming increasingly necessary. Building upon existing solutions for deep decarbonization, the inclusion of renewable capacity to meet up to 8 MMT/year hydrogen demand is carried out. An hourly economic dispatch problem modeling the 2050 California electric grid given this hydrogen demand constraint is solved.

In this investigator-initiated, randomized, controlled trial conducted in Europe and Canada, HBeAg-negative patients treated with NA > 12 months, with HBVDNA < 200 IU/mL, were enrolled. Patients were randomized 2:1 to 48 weeks of PEG-IFN alfa-2a add-on (180 μg per week) or continued NA-monotherapy with subsequent follow-up to Week 72.

These studies mainly concerned anterior circulation occlusions. We aimed to investigate clinical, technical, and safety outcomes of IVT before EVT in posterior circulation occlusions in a nationwide registry.

It is also crucial in the development of novel drugs, in particular in case of a potential side effect of QT prolongation and in patients with increased risk of QT prolongation. The 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is the gold standard to evaluate cardiac conduction and repolarization times.
