Objective: Bracing is an accepted standard therapy for idiopathic scoliosis at Cobb angle ranges between 25° and 40°. However, it is unclear, if a specifically tailored regimen of daytime and nighttime braces (= double brace) yields superior results compared to the standard treatment (single brace for day and night).

In this study, the surface of TiAl6V4 (Tilastan®) implants was modified by (a) corundum blasting, (b) corundum blasting followed by electrochemical calcium phosphate (CaP) deposition, and (c) titanium plasma spraying followed by electrochemical CaP deposition. Objective: Acetabular chondral lesions are common in patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome. The aim of this study was (1) to evaluate the proliferation potential of primary human chondrocytes (hC) derived from both acetabular and femoral site and (2) to validate cellular differentiation during three-dimensional (3D) cultivation as a prerequisite for autologous matrix-assisted cartilage regeneration of the hip joint.
Methods: hC were isolated from cartilage samples obtained from N = 6 patients during offset reconstruction.
To facilitate precision medicine and whole-genome annotation, we developed a machine-learning technique that scores how strongly genetic variants affect RNA splicing, whose alteration contributes to many diseases. Analysis of more than 650,000 intronic and exonic variants revealed widespread patterns of mutation-driven aberrant splicing. Intronic disease mutations that are more than 30 nucleotides from any splice site alter splicing nine times as often as common variants, and missense exonic disease mutations that have the least impact on protein function are five times as likely as others to alter splicing.
