The testis transcriptome is exceptionally complex. Despite its complexity, previous testis transcriptome analyses relied on a reductive method for transcript identification, thus underestimating transcriptome complexity. We describe here a more complete testis transcriptome generated by combining Tuxedo, a reductive method, and spliced-RUM, a combinatorial transcript-building approach.

Methods: Serum neutralizing antibody levels were determined using a GII.4/Sydney/2012-like virus in human intestinal enteroids in samples collected before and 4 weeks after administration of an investigational norovirus vaccine and were compared with those measured in histo-blood group antigen (HBGA)-blocking assays.
The best known form of oxygen therapy is hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, which increases both concentration and atmospheric pressure. HBO supports tissue regeneration and is indicated in an increasing number of pathologies. Less known but still showing some promising effects is normobaric oxygen (NBO) therapy, which provides some advantages over HBO including eliminating barotrauma risk, increased ease of administration and a significant cost reduction.

The purpose of this systematic review was to investigate the efficacy of antibiotic prophylaxis (AP) in intraoral bone grafting procedures for the prevention of postoperative infection (POI). Electronic and manual searches were conducted to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The primary outcome assessed was receptor site POI; secondary outcomes assessed included donor site POI, wound dehiscence, pain, graft failure, need for re-grafting, adverse events, patient satisfaction, and quality of life.

Mechanical hydrogen compression, which is more-mature technology, can suffer from low reliability, noise, and maintenance costs. Proton-conducting electrolyte membranes may be polymers (e.

The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of state-of-the-art machine-learning algorithms with human readers for all clinically relevant types of benign and malignant pigmented skin lesions.
Methods: For this open, web-based, international, diagnostic study, human readers were asked to diagnose dermatoscopic images selected randomly in 30-image batches from a test set of 1511 images.
We characterized five different vaccine candidates and a commercial vaccine in terms of safety, immunogenicity and using a systems vaccinology approach, with the aim to select novel vaccine candidates against . Seven groups of six -free piglets were primo- and booster vaccinated with the different experimental bacterin formulations, the commercial vaccine Hyogen® as a positive control or PBS as a negative control. The experimental bacterin was formulated with cationic liposomes + c-di-AMP (Lipo_AMP), cationic liposomes + Toll-like receptor (TLR) 2/1, TLR7, and TLR9 ligands (TLR ligands; Lipo_TLR), micro-particles + TLR ligands (PLGA_TLR), squalene-in-water emulsion + TLR ligands (SWE_TLR), or DDA:TDB liposomes (Lipo_DDA:TDB).

View Article and Find Full Text PDFLong-term maintenance of spermatogenesis in mammals is supported by GDNF, an essential growth factor required for spermatogonial stem cell (SSC) self-renewal. Exploiting a transgenic GDNF overexpression model, which expands and normalizes the pool of undifferentiated spermatogonia between and mice, we used RNAseq to identify a rare subpopulation of cells that express EOMES, a T-box transcription factor. Lineage tracing and busulfan challenge show that these are SSCs that contribute to steady state spermatogenesis as well as regeneration following chemical injury.

We sought to establish which anatomic sites are examined during routine (>90%) TBSEs of patients at high risk for skin cancer.
Methods: A Google survey was emailed to 173 international dermatologist skin cancer specialists.
The phage surface display technology is a useful tool to screen and to extend the spectrum of metal-binding protein structures provided by nature. The directed evolution approach allows identifying specific peptide ligands for metals that are less abundant in the biosphere. Such peptides are attractive molecules in resource technology.

Purpose: To present outcome measures of sinonasal mucosal melanoma (SMM) patients with particular focus on current radiological and therapeutic options, especially in the non-curative setting (immunotherapy).
Methods: Retrospective study on SMM patients treated at our institution between January 1992 and December 2018.
Results: FDG-PET/MRI has emerged as the new hybrid imaging modality, addressing the need for high local tissue contrast in the paranasal sinuses and the skull base, while allowing for whole-body staging in search for distant metastases, including the brain.
Due to the inevitable presence of random defects, unpredictable grain boundaries in macroscopic samples, stress concentration at clamping points, and unknown load distribution in the investigation of graphene sheets, uncertainties are crucial and challenging issues that require more exploration. The application of the Kriging surrogate model in vibration analysis of graphene sheets is proposed in this study. The Latin hypercube sampling method effectively propagates the uncertainties in geometrical and material properties of the finite element model.

Objectives: We aimed to standardize the dermoscopic terminology and identify basic parameters to evaluate in non-neoplastic dermatoses through an expert consensus.
Methods: The modified Delphi method was followed, with two phases: (i) identification of a list of possible items based on a systematic literature review and (ii) selection of parameters by a panel of experts through a three-step iterative procedure (blinded e-mail interaction in rounds 1 and 3 and a face-to-face meeting in round 2).
Background: An important instrument for handling mass casualty incidents in preclinical settings is the use of an advanced medical post. In certain circumstances, however, the establishment of such an advanced medical post on or close to the incident site is impossible. Terrorist attacks are a prime example for this.

Background: A key challenge of identifying disease-associated genes is analyzing transcriptomic data in the context of regulatory networks that control cellular processes in order to capture multi-gene interactions and yield mechanistically interpretable results. One existing category of analysis techniques identifies groups of related genes using interaction networks, but these gene sets often comprise tens or hundreds of genes, making experimental follow-up challenging. A more recent category of methods identifies precise gene targets while incorporating systems-level information, but these techniques do not determine whether a gene is a driving source of changes in its network, an important characteristic when looking for potential drug targets.

The here described methods apply the fundamental knowledge and methods of separation science and meet thereby the key requirement of the phage display technique of precise separation of target-binding bacteriophage clones from non-interacting bacteriophage during the biopanning. During the chromatopanning called process, a total of 101 bacteriophage clones were identified of which in subsequent binding experiments, phage clones expressing the peptide sequences TMHHAAIAHPPH, SQALSTSRQDLR and HTQHIQSDDHLA were characterized to bind >10 fold better to a target that presents immobilized gallium ions than control phage, displaying no peptide sequence.

Critical attributes for a norovirus vaccine are the strength and breadth of antibody responses against the many different genotypes. In the absence of suitable neutralization assays to test samples from vaccine clinical trials, blockade assays offer a method that can measure functional antibodies specific for many of the different norovirus strains.
