Aim: Children born very preterm require additional specialist care because of the health and developmental risks associated with preterm birth, but information on their health service use is sparse. We sought to describe the use of specialist services by children born very preterm in Europe.
Method: We analysed data from the multi-regional, population-based Effective Perinatal Intensive Care in Europe (EPICE) cohort of births before 32 weeks' gestation in 11 European countries.
To review available evidence on older people's ability to get up off the floor independently and determine the effectiveness of interventions to improve older adults' ability to rise from the floor. Seven databases were searched between January 1975 and June 2018. Eligibility criteria included: people aged ≥60; interventions to improve strength/function including ability to get up off the floor (for intervention studies); comparison groups (for randomized and nonrandomized controlled trials); outcome: quantitative or qualitative evaluation of ability to get up off the floor.

Understanding the relationship between psychological and social factors and adolescent spinal pain may be important in both the prevention and treatment of spinal pain in this age group. We aimed to determine if psychological and social factors were associated with spinal pain in a cross-sectional study of a school-based cohort of 1279 Danish adolescents aged 11-13, who were categorized into "any" and "substantial" spinal pain.

Paired strip loins (IMPS # 180) were collected to equally represent five quality treatments [Prime, Top Choice (modest and moderate marbling), Low Choice, Select, and Select Enhanced (110% of raw weight)]. Steaks were grouped into sets of three consecutively cut steaks and randomly assigned a degree of doneness (DOD): very-rare (VR; 55 °C), rare (R; 60 °C), medium-rare (MR; 63 °C), medium (M; 71 °C), well done (WD; 77 °C), or very well done (VWD; 82 °C).

Here, we developed a rapid magnet-based phenotypic screening strategy, and performed eight genome-wide CRISPR screens in human cells to identify genes regulating phagocytosis of distinct substrates. After validating select hits in focused miniscreens, orthogonal assays and primary human macrophages, we show that (1) the previously uncharacterized gene NHLRC2 is a central player in phagocytosis, regulating RhoA-Rac1 signaling cascades that control actin polymerization and filopodia formation, (2) very-long-chain fatty acids are essential for efficient phagocytosis of certain substrates and (3) the previously uncharacterized Alzheimer's disease-associated gene TM2D3 can preferentially influence uptake of amyloid-β aggregates.

Late preterm (LP) and early term (ET) infants have generally been considered in the same way as their healthy full term (FT) counterparts. It is only in the last decade that an increased risk of later poor health in children born LP has been recognised; evidence for health outcomes following ET birth is still emerging. However, reports are largely consistent in highlighting an increased risk, which lessens approaching FT but is measurable and persists into adolescence and beyond.

Although cytokine release provoked through MHCA under CPB plays a pivotal role in postoperative organ damage, the pathomechanisms are unclear. Here, we investigated the cytokine release pattern and histological organ damage after MHCA using a recently described mouse CPB model.

Until recently, there has been a strongly held belief on the part of neonatal and pediatric clinicians that outcomes for infants born close to term are not different from those of babies born at full term. In the last decade, however, this assumption has been challenged by reports suggesting that this is not correct, and highlighting differences in morbidity and mortality both in the short and long term. This has led to development of new terminology to more accurately reflect the impact of immaturity associated with birth at 32-33 weeks (moderately preterm) and 34-36 weeks (late preterm) of gestation.

However, the intervention is still in its infancy and important clinical issues require elucidation; among these are the effects on asymptomatic individuals.
Methods: Twenty healthy males were allocated randomly to either 3 minutes of high-pressure IASTM or active self-stretch of the triceps surae muscles.
Objective: To quantify the burden of epileptiform abnormalities (EAs) including seizures, periodic and rhythmic activity, and sporadic discharges in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), and assess the effect of EA burden and treatment on outcomes.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of 136 high-grade aSAH patients. EAs were defined using the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society nomenclature.

Purpose: A multifaceted workplace intervention consisting of participatory ergonomics, physical training, and cognitive-behavioural training (CBT) has shown effectiveness for reducing low back pain (LBP). However, the mechanisms of action underlying these intervention components are not well understood.
Methods: This was a mediation analysis of a cluster-randomised controlled trial of a multifaceted intervention in 420 workers in elderly care.
The evolution of bipedalism in the hominin lineage has shaped the posterior human calcaneus into a large, robust structure considered to be adaptive for dissipating peak compressive forces and energy during heel-strike. A unique anatomy thought to contribute to the human calcaneus and its function is the lateral plantar process (LPP). While it has long been known that humans possess a plantarly positioned LPP and apes possess a more dorsally positioned homologous structure, the relative position of the LPP and intraspecific variation of this structure have never been quantified.

Ibrutinib is an orally administered first-in-class irreversible Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) covalent inhibitor for the treatment of patients with B-cell malignancies. Several isolated clinical observations reported its efficacy in central nervous system dissemination. Herein, we described the development and validation of an ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) procedure for the quantification of ibrutinib and its active metabolite PCI-45227 in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Our research reveals that formal condemnation of corporal punishment in schools is becoming a global norm; policies banning corporal punishment in the home, in contrast, are being adopted more slowly. We find that the percentage of women in parliament is associated with the adoption of anti-corporal punishment policies in both schools and homes, suggesting a nexus between women's and children's issues.

First, endothelial dysfunction and increased permeability facilitate the entry of diverse inflammation-triggering molecules and particles such as low-density lipoproteins into the artery wall from the arterial lumen and vasa vasorum (VV). Recognition of entering particles by resident phagocytes in the vessel wall triggers a maladaptive inflammatory response that initiates the process of local plaque formation.

This research sought to answer the question, "How effective are student-centered pedagogies and CAI at increasing student knowledge gains in anatomy compared to traditional didactic approaches?" Relevant studies published within the past 51 years were searched using five databases. Predetermined eligibility criteria were applied to the screening of titles and abstracts to discern their appropriateness for study inclusion.
