A growing body of literature supports the efficacy of tranexamic acid (TXA) in geriatric hip fractures, without sufficient data examining which subgroups are likely to benefit the most.

Purpose: To describe modes of failure of cervical TDR, their related treatment strategies, and to describe a management strategy for the treatment of failed cervical TDR.

Methods: This retrospective study was based on a consecutive series of 53 cervical TDR patients who underwent removal or revision surgery. Chart review was conducted to collect general descriptive data, reasons for TDR removal/revision, duration from index implantation to re-operation, and the subsequent procedure performed.

However, the possibility of masking acute compartment syndrome (ACS) after peripheral nerve blocks for limb injuries is still controversially discussed. Therefore, we aimed to summarize the current literature regarding this topic to shed light on the impact of peripheral regional anesthesia on the diagnosis of ACS in trauma patients.

Methods: Multiarm, randomized, controlled trial in two Swiss intensive care units, with a 1:1:1 randomization of patients suffering severe, refractory septic shock with high levels of endotoxemia, defined as an endotoxin activity ≥ 0.6, a vasopressor dependency index ≥ 3, volume resuscitation of at least 30 ml/kg/24 h and at least single organ failure, to a haemoadsorption (Toraymyxin), an enhanced adsorption haemofiltration (oXiris) or a control intervention.

In this study, we evaluated ethnicity-based differences in time between admission and surgery for patients undergoing emergent procedures at hospitals participating in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 249,296 National Surgical Quality Improvement Program cases from 2006 to 2018 involving general, orthopaedic, and vascular surgeries.

We sought to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of inflammatory markers including white blood cell (WBC) count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-reactive protein (CRP). A retrospective cohort study was performed to identify subjects  years treated with surgical debridement of upper extremity abscesses at our institution between January 2012 and December 2015.
