An evaluation of four telemedicine systems for primary care.

In an evaluation of the efficacy of four two-way telecommunication systems for use in primary care, more than 1,000 patients seeking care at a community health center received an additional remote examination by use of either color television, black and white television, still-frame black and white television, or hands-free telephone. The diagnosis, clinical tests and X rays requested, and proposed patient management were compared to the actual care received by the patients at the health center. There were no significant differences between any of the modes in relation to diagnostic accuracy, time for the diagnostic interview, tests requested, or referral rates.

Investigations into the factors affecting dust concentrations in the breathing zone of pottery operatives have shown that cotton overalls constitute a serious source of dust. Attempts to overcome this difficulty by treatment of the material were not successful, so other types of materials were investigated. Terylene was found to have outstandingly desirable properties; types of “terylene” material and designs of clothing were defined.

Effect of growth hormone on lipid aldehydes.

Female rats at the body weight plateau which responded to 13 daily injections of 0.4 mg of growth hormone by greater weight gain per gram of food had a decreased concentration of lipid aldehydes in blood plasma, an increased concentration in liver, and no change in intestine, compared with control rats given isotonic saline.
