The publish or perish culture of scholarly communication results in quality and relevance to be are subordinate to quantity. Scientific events such as conferences play an important role in scholarly communication and knowledge exchange. Researchers in many fields, such as computer science, often need to search for events to publish their research results, establish connections for collaborations with other researchers and stay up to date with recent works.

Medical nutrition therapy for long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders (LC-FAODs) currently emphasizes fasting avoidance, restricted dietary long-chain fatty acid intake, supplementation with medium chain triglycerides, and increased carbohydrate intake. We hypothesize that increasing dietary protein intake relative to carbohydrate intake would preserve metabolic control yet induce physical benefits including reduced hepatic lipogenesis. Therefore, we compared two dietary approaches with similar fat intake but different carbohydrate to protein ratios in participants diagnosed with LC-FAODs.

The bacterium Streptomyces coelicolor M145 reacts to transition-metal-ion stress with myriad growth responses, leading to different phenotypes. In particular, in the presence of Co(2+) ions (0.7 mM) S.

Background: The production of heather (Calluna vulgaris) in Germany is highly dependent on cultivars with mutated flower morphology, the so-called diplocalyx bud bloomers. So far, this unique flower type of C. vulgaris has not been reported in any other plant species.

Background: Calluna vulgaris is one of the most important landscaping plants produced in Germany. Its enormous economic success is due to the prolonged flower attractiveness of mutants in flower morphology, the so-called bud-bloomers. In this study, we present the first genetic linkage map of C.

Objective: This paper reports on the clinical application and first experiences of a newly developed cementless knee endoprosthesis for dogs.

Material And Methods: The GenuSys knee-endoprosthesis was implanted in 23 knees of 22 dogs with severe gonarthritis and a history of pain. Their body weight ranged from 28 to 55 kg, their age between 5 and 12 years.

In Calluna vulgaris, a common bedding plant during autumn in the northern hemisphere, the bud-blooming mutation of flower morphology is of high economic importance. Breeding of new bud-blooming cultivars suffers from poor seed set in some of the desirable bud-flowering crossing partners. In the current study, fertilisation and seed development in genotypes with good or poor seed set were monitored in detail in order to examine pre- and post-zygotic cross breeding incompatibilities.

Background: The use of long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) for energy is inhibited in inherited disorders of long-chain fatty acid oxidation (FAO). Increased energy demands during exercise can lead to cardiomyopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) bypass the block in long-chain FAO and may provide an alternative energy substrate to exercising muscle.

Background: The rate of Caesarean sections in Germany continues to rise. The change in anesthetic technique of choice from general to spinal anesthesia began later than in other countries and at the last survey in 2002 was not widely established. The literature on the anesthetic management of Caesarean sections contains many controversies, for example fluid preload before performing spinal anesthesia and the vasopressor of choice.

Background: Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 1 (biliary glycoprotein; CEACAM1) is expressed in normal bladder urothelium and in angiogenically activated endothelial cells, where it exhibits proangiogenic properties.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the value of urinary CEACAM1 for detection of urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (UCB).

Design, Setting, And Participants: This prospective study included 175 patients.

Endometrial carcinoma is the most frequent malignancy of the female reproductive tract, and irregular vaginal bleeding is the most common presenting symptom. Endometrial carcinoma is found most commonly among postmenopausal women and is associated with obesity, nulliparity, and anovulation. Oral contraceptive (OC) use and tobacco smoking have been reported to protect against endometrial carcinoma.

It has been suggested that carotid endarterectomy for carotid bifurcation disease may be contraindicated in the presence of carotid siphon lesions. This study was undertaken to assess any difference in stroke rate, mortality, or relief of symptoms in patients with and without such "tandem" lesions following elective carotid endarterectomy. Ninety-one bifurcation endarterectomies were performed in 79 patients.

Complete arteriographic delineation of lower extremity arterial anatomy is not always possible preoperatively. Nonvisualization of patent arterial segments may lead to amputation in lieu of arterial bypass grafting. During a 3-year period (1978 to 1981), 31 patients evaluated for lower extremity arterial bypass had incomplete preoperative arteriographic studies.
