We disclose a stereodivergent strategy to prepare difluorinated tetralins from γ-substituted tetralones via a combination of catalyst-controlled transfer hydrogenation and substrate-controlled fluorinations. This process is easily scalable and amenable to highly functionalized substrates, as demonstrated here in the late-stage synthesis of casdatifan, a clinical-stage inhibitor of hypoxia-inducible factor-2α. Analysis of the physicochemical properties of casdatifan, which features a difluoride, revealed a higher level of facial polarization compared to its difluoride isomers.

The etiology and clinical findings of feline EHBO and their influence on short-(2 weeks-6 months) and long-term (>6 months) survival and prognosis were examined in an observational clinical retrospective study of 26 client-owned cats undergoing surgery for biliary obstruction at one institution between 2012 and 2020. The etiology of EHBO was determined in 21/26 cats, which included inflammatory causes (14/21), neoplastic causes (6/21), and a duodenal foreign body (1/21).

Methods: A novel Faculty Effort Data Collection Tool assessed whether the Carnegie Unit accurately reflected faculty effort in a graduate nursing program. Workload was evaluated course-by-course based on faculty self-reported hours.
Individuals with a stronger sense of purpose in life experience better health across the lifespan. This chapter describes one mechanism linking purpose to health, namely stress reactivity. Across survey, experimental, and daily diary studies, research demonstrates that sense of purpose may yield a homeostatic function, insofar that it helps individuals stay the course to progress toward their purpose in life.

Evidence-based clinical reasoning is vital to patient safety. Collaborative technology tools can aid in assessing progress towards achieving clinical reasoning competency.

This study aimed to determine seroprevalence, risk factors for seroreactivity and prevalence of urinary shedding among domestic cats in Hong Kong. Microagglutination testing of 22 serovars from 20 serogroups was performed on 738 sera from outdoor free-roaming "community" cats ( = 391) and privately-owned ( = 347) cats.

To better characterize their total infectomes and assess zoonotic risks, we characterized the overall infectomes of companion animals (cats and dogs) and evaluated their potential zoonotic risks. Meta-transcriptomic analyses were performed on 239 samples from cats and dogs collected across China, identifying 24 viral species, 270 bacterial genera, and two fungal genera.

Microviruses are highly abundant in aquatic ecosystems and are prominent members of the mammalian gut microbiome, where their diversity has been linked to various chronic health disorders. Despite the clear importance of microviruses, little is known about the molecular mechanism of host infection.

Aim: The purpose of this quality improvement (QI) initiative was to evaluate postoperative use of classical music among adult patients who have undergone TKR on reported agitation, pain, and opioid use.
Cultur Divers Ethnic Minor Psychol
October 2024
Objectives: Immigrants face multiple forms of cultural stress that hold pernicious influences on their psychological well-being, including everyday discrimination, bicultural stressors, and negative context of reception from others. Research thus is needed to consider potential buffers and mitigating factors that may help immigrant adults in the face of cultural stress. The present studies evaluated a sense of purpose as one potential buffer.

Six of seven bats that died between March and September 2021 were diagnosed postmortem with both iron overload (IO) and neoplasia, neither of which have previously been reported in this species. Iron status was assessed via hepatic histopathological grading, hepatic iron concentration, and, in two cases, serum iron concentration.

However, research in this area is impeded by challenges in integrating recruitment efforts into ongoing clinical workflows or staffing multiple study clinics with full-time research assistants, as well as by the underreporting of substance use.
Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate pragmatic methods for facilitating study recruitment in health care settings by examining recruitment rates and participant characteristics using in-person-based versus flyer approaches.
Understanding the local epidemiology of feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) in Hong Kong will inform retrovirus prevention strategies. Domestic cat hepadnavirus (DCH), a novel hepatitis-B-like virus, is commonly detected among client-owned cats in Hong Kong, but community cats have not been studied. The aims of this study were to investigate the frequency and potential risk factors for (i) FeLV and FIV among community and client-owned cats and (ii) perform molecular detection of DCH among community cats in Hong Kong.

A sero-molecular survey of 120 client- or shelter-owned domestic cats in greater Santiago was performed. Whole blood DNA was tested for the novel hepatitis-B-like virus, domestic cat hepadnavirus (DCH) by conventional PCR (cPCR) and quantitative PCR (qPCR), and for feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) by qPCR.

In this study, we examined gene expression among the numerically dominant diatom and dinoflagellate taxa during spring upwelling bloom events to compare the physiological underpinnings of diatom vs. dinoflagellate bloom dynamics.

The aim of this study was to create and validate a comprehensive ethogram of acute pain behaviors in cats that can discriminate painful versus non-painful individuals. An inventory of behaviors (ethogram) with their respective descriptors was created based on a literature review of PubMed, Web of Science and CAB Abstracts databases.

However, it is possible that the tissue response to implanted electrodes may influence the nature of the signals detected or stimulated. In this study, we characterized structural and functional changes in deep layer pyramidal neurons surrounding silicon or polyimide-based electrodes implanted in the motor cortex of rats.

Because of deflection by interstellar magnetic fields, cosmic rays produced within the Milky Way arrive at Earth from random directions. However, cosmic rays interact with matter near their sources and during propagation, which produces high-energy neutrinos.
