An interactive software for 81mKr pulmonary ventilation gating.

An interactive software to gate scintigraphic list-mode data collected from ventilation studies using a radioisotope of an inert gas (81mKr) has been developed. It allows the detection of end expiration and end inspiration phases in a time activity curve. It involves six phases: filtering of the curve; preselection of local extrema; validation of the preselection; choice of the parameters for the reconstruction; control of the selected cycles and display of parameters such as frequency, expiration time, breath amplitude; reconstruction of images representing the distribution of ventilation during a mean respiratory cycle.

[Microcirculation and hyperkeratosis. Pathogenetic hypothesis and treatment].

The orthokeratotic thickening of the epidermis would appear to follow the deceleration or permanent interruptions of the cutaneous microcirculation. This explains the development of calluses, corns and warts in areas where the skin is compressed between bone and a hard external support. Peripheral vasometric anomalies give rise to the same thing.

Factor analysis of 81mKr lung ventilation studies.

Factor analysis of dynamic structures (FADS) summarizes data depending on time and space in a few elementary components. Each of them associates a time-activity curve (factor) and the spatial distribution of the corresponding events. The aim was to evaluate the patterns, the number of components, and their possible link to physiology when FADS was applied to scintigraphic images representing a composite of a 81mKr ventilation cycle.

Factor analysis in gated cardiac studies.

Factor analysis of dynamic structures (FADS) can automatically provide "physiological" factors related to anatomical structures that have different temporal behavior, even if these structures overlap; it also yields images corresponding to the factors' spatial distributions. In normal patients, two significant cardiac factors, corresponding to the atria and the ventricles, may be extracted. A third significant factor can be obtained when additional dynamic structures exist.

A co-operative study on the clinical value of dynamic renal scanning with deconvolution analysis.

An international project was set up to study the clinical usefulness of intrarenal transit times derived from the renogram by deconvolution. A common data sheet, to collect clinical, biochemical, radiological and isotopic information, was completed by the centres. Five hundred and ninety-one patients were studied and the results analysed.

Immunological investigation and immunotherapy in patients operated on for breast carcinoma.

The tumor-host relationship is an essential factor in the onset, development, and recovery from malignancies. A basic consideration in the treatment of cancer patients must therefore be to understand this relationship and attempt to modify it in order to favor the host. We here discuss the results of a study of the immunologic status of 91 breast cancer patients.

Early kinetics of thyroid trap in normal human patients and in thyroid diseases.

A six-compartment model is proposed for the study of early iodine kinetics (150 min) in the human thyroid gland including three compartments for extrathyroidal spaces. The results were compared with those obtained with an open two-compartment thyroid model. In six euthyroid subjects the values of the unidirectional thyroid clearance R41 = 86 +- 25 ml/min and of the irreversible clearance R65 = 22 +- 9 ml/min were consistent with those generally accepted.

The pathogenic agents are normal parasites of the epidermis but which may cause local signs and microbial secondary infection. Two types of fungus are distinguished: -- dermatophytes, which develop in the 4th interdigital space and may become exacerbated. -- yeasts, which develop from the digestive and genital mucosal surfaces.

[Breast cancer: a dynamic approach of cellular immunity and immunostimulation with an immunoadjuvant: P40 fraction. (author's transl)].

The study of the immune status of breast cancer patients with delayed hypersensitivity skin tests reveals a clear immune deficiency in comparison with a reference patients group. This immunstatus was significantly improved by an immunstimulation with the P40 fraction. The responsive capacity to an immunstimulation appears independant of the lymphnodes involvment, whereas, on the contrary, the initial degree of immune deficiency appears connected.

[Value of separation on ion exchange resins of plasma iodine fractions. Comparison with Werner's suppression test].

This was a study of 71 patients suspected of hyperthyroidism who had undergone a tri-iodothyronine suppression test. A study of circulating protein-bound iodine after separation on ion-exchange resins had been carried out before triiodothyronine administration, on the same patients. The results showed that the radioactive hormonal fraction has a better diagnostic value than radioactive serum protein-bound iodine.
