Trifluoroethanol Promoted Castagnoli-Cushman Cycloadditions of Imines with Homophthalic Anhydride.

Lactams are essential compounds in medicinal chemistry and key intermediates in the synthesis of natural products. The Castagnoli-Cushman reaction (CCR) of homophthalic anhydride with imines is an exciting method for accessing cyclic densely substituted lactam products. Most CCRs need to be catalyzed or heated.

Dysfunctional schema modes, childhood trauma and dissociation in borderline personality disorder.

Objective: To examine the relationship between dysfunctional schema modes, childhood trauma and dissociation in borderline personality disorder (BPD).

Method: 30 BPD patients completed the Wessex Dissociation Scale (WDS), Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), General Health Questionnaire (GHQ), and Schema Mode Questionnaire (SMQ).

Results: The 'Angry and Impulsive Child' and 'Abandoned and Abused Child' modes uniquely predicted dissociation scores.

Effects of chair design, age and cognitive status on mobility.

To test the validity of published guidelines on the height of seating for the elderly, ambulant residents in three Social Services' Homes were asked to rise from their usual chairs and from a chair conforming to the guidelines. When both seat and arm height were at recommended levels, 77% of those who were usually chair-fast could rise unaided. More agile residents also benefited, as they could rise with less difficulty.
