Photonics offers a transformative approach to artificial intelligence (AI) and neuromorphic computing by enabling low-latency, high-speed, and energy-efficient computations. However, conventional photonic tensor cores face significant challenges in constructing large-scale photonic neuromorphic networks. Here, we propose a fully integrated photonic tensor core, consisting of only two thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) modulators, a III-V laser, and a charge-integration photoreceiver.

Surgical resection is the only known treatment associated with long-term survival in pancreatic adenocarcinoma. While adjuvant therapy has shown a clear survival benefit, neoadjuvant chemotherapy has gained interest due to its ability to prioritize the treatment of micrometastatic disease prior to resection and improve chemotherapy tolerance prior to a major operation. Investigations have focused on evaluating the survival benefit of neoadjuvant therapy using single and combination chemotherapy as well as radiation therapy.

Prenatal depression, a common pregnancy-related risk with a prevalence of 10-20 %, may affect in utero development and socioemotional and neurodevelopmental outcomes in the next generation. Although there is a growing body of work that suggests prenatal depression has an independent and long-lasting effect on offspring outcomes, important questions remain, and findings often do not converge. The present review examines work carried out in the last decade, with an emphasis on studies focusing on mechanisms and leveraging innovative technologies and study designs to fill in gaps in research.

Purpose: Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare and poorly understood malignant condition characterized by the accumulation of intra-abdominal mucin produced from peritoneal metastases. Currently, cytoreductive surgery remains the mainstay of treatment but disease recurrence and death after relapse frequently occur in patients with PMP. New therapeutic strategies are therefore urgently needed for these patients.

  • Up to 30% of patients experience suboptimal weight loss (SWL) after sleeve gastrectomy (SG), leading to some converting to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (cRYGB), with mixed results in weight loss and health improvements.
  • A study analyzed data from 32 patients who underwent cRYGB for SWL over nine years, finding that prior to conversion, patients had a significant average BMI reduction but still faced challenges with weight.
  • After an average follow-up of 24 months post-conversion, results indicated encouraging mid-term outcomes for patients, with improvements in average BMI and weight loss percentage reported as better than existing literature suggests.

Background And Objective: Whether and when surgical intervention is indicated for mediastinal cysts is a matter of some debate. While most mediastinal cysts are found incidentally, the anatomic location, clinical presentation, and symptoms, as well as the potential for malignancy, are important considerations that inform decisions related to whether to intervene surgically. The objective of this review is to summarize the current literature regarding the criteria for surgical excision of mediastinal cysts and provide a framework for the clinician and surgeon to arrive at a decision regarding the appropriateness of surgical intervention of mediastinal cysts.

The emotional experience and the type of communication about cancer within the family are important factors for successful coping with pediatric oncology. The main purpose is to study mother's and children's emotional experiences concerning cancer, whether they communicate openly about the disease, and relationships between the type of communication and the different emotions expressed by the children. Fifty-two cancer patients aged 6-14 years and their mothers were interviewed in separate sessions about the two central themes of the study: emotional experiences and type of communication.

Chip-scale optical frequency comb sources are ideal compact solutions to generate high speed optical pulses for applications in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and high-speed optical signal processing. Our previous studies have concentrated on the use of quantum dash based lasers, but here we present results from an InAs/InP quantum dot (QDot) C-band passively mode-locked laser (MLL) for frequency comb generation. By using this single-section QDot-MLL we demonstrate an aggregate line rate of 12.

Despite early clinical success of transcatheter pulmonic valve replacement, there is concern for an increased risk of endocarditis requiring complex surgery to repair. We present a case of endocarditis of a Melody (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN) valve in a 33-year-old male patient with prior neonatal repair of persistent truncus arteriosus and 2 subsequent right ventricular outflow tract to pulmonary artery conduit replacements. The infection had extended from the Melody valve through the prior ventricular septal defect patch to the truncal valve and highlights the risk of endocarditis, particularly with the Melody transcatheter valve.

This paper presents a Bayesian filter based solution to the Space Object (SO) tracking problem using simulated optical telescopic observations. The presented solution utilizes the Probabilistic Admissible Region (PAR) approach, which is an orbital admissible region that adheres to the assumption of independence between newborn targets and surviving SOs. These SOs obey physical energy constraints in terms of orbital semi-major axis length and eccentricity within a range of orbits of interest.

Gastrointestinal complications are the main source of severe morbidity after cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), mainly in the form of anastomotic leak. Reducing the rate of anastomotic leaks is of paramount importance and should be approached both through risk factor understanding and reduction, as well as optimization of surgical team performance. We performed a study that describes the details of a technical protocol for the creation of anastomoses after colorectal resections in CRS and HIPEC and the anastomotic outcomes associated with its systematic application in a high-volume peritoneal surface malignancy center.
