However, scheduling of medicines can negatively affect their availability, accessibility and affordability for medical purposes, with serious health consequences for patients, especially in low and middle-income countries.

There is limited understanding of adverse health effect associations with chemical constituents of fine particulate matter (PM) as well as the underlying mechanisms. We outlined a workflow to assess metrics, beyond concentration, using household and personal PM filter samples collected in India as a proof of concept for future large-scale studies. Oxidative potential, chemical composition (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and elements), and bioactivity (developmental exposures in zebrafish) were determined.

The native extracellular matrix (ECM) is a complex gel-like system with a broad range of structural features and biomolecular signals. Hydrogel platforms that can recapitulate the complexity and signaling properties of this ECM would have enormous impact in fields ranging from tissue engineering to drug discovery. Here, we report on the design, synthesis, and proof-of-concept validation of a microporous and nanofibrous hydrogel exhibiting multiple bioactive epitopes designed to recreate key features of the bone ECM.

Welfare Challenges of Dairy Cows in India Identified Through On-Farm Observations.

India has the largest population of dairy cattle in the world at over 48 million animals, yet there has been little formal assessment of their welfare reported. Through observations of dairy cows on 38 farms in Kerala, India, we aimed to investigate the welfare of these animals and the practicality of animal-based assessments within common farming systems. Substantial welfare challenges were identified.

The oxidation status of angiotensinogen (AGT) may have a critical role in pre-eclampsia. We used a validated, quantitative, mass spectrometry-based method to measure the oxidized and total AGT levels in plasma of pre-eclamptic women (n = 17), normotensive-matched controls (n = 17), and healthy non-pregnant women (n = 10). A method for the simultaneous quantification of B vitamins and related amines in one-carbon (1C) metabolism would benefit the study of diet and genetic/epigenetic regulation of mammalian development and health. We present a validated method for the simultaneous quantitative analysis of 13 B vitamers and four related 1C-pathway amine intermediates in liver using hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) coupled to electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry.
