With a disproportionate burden of chronic diseases and severe shortage of health workers in sub-Saharan Africa, the region implicitly relies on informal caregivers (ICGs) to support the patients both within and outside the health facilities. The aim of this review is to systematically summarise evidence on the health and economic impact of caregiving on informal caregivers of patients with chronic diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. Medline (Ovid), CINAHL (EBSCOhost), PsycINFO (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), Global Health, and Web of Science databases were systematically searched to identify original articles that considered the economic and/or health impacts of caregiving in sub-Saharan Africa.

Emotional literacy programme in special schools for children with a learning disability in England: the ZF-SEND feasibility RCT.

Background: Children with a learning disability experience a range of inequalities and adverse life events that put them at greater risk of mental health problems. The construct of emotional literacy has been shown to be a moderating factor of how life stress affects mental health. Teaching emotional literacy in schools may therefore be an effective way to promote positive mental health.

A patient-centred care model for patients with complicated multimorbidity: Protocol for a pilot cluster randomised trial in general practice, municipalities, and hospitals.

Introduction: Current care is inadequate for patients with complicated multimorbidity, and frequently results in fragmented care. There is no widely agreed-upon optimal organisation of healthcare services for this patient group. By drawing upon existing literature and prior studies, we developed a patient-centred complex intervention for multimorbidity (CIM) and subsequently refined it into CIM version 2 (CIM2).

Leaving Slings and Other Transfer Devices Under Patients: A Clinical Decision Support Quality Improvement Project.

Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to develop guidance for safe patient handling and mobility efforts to prevent pressure injuries (PIs) within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) when slings and other transfer devices are left under patients.

Participants And Setting: Health care staff (n = 112) in patient safety and nursing at 77 unique VHA facilities responded to surveys between November and December 2019. Interviews (n = 24) were conducted using purposive sampling with VHA staff at facilities with highest and lowest PI rates (n = 9) between January and March 2021.

This paper reports the results of a hybrid effectiveness-implementation randomized trial that systematically varied levels of human oversight required to support the implementation of a digital medicine intervention for persons with mild-to-moderate alcohol use disorder (AUD). Animal companionship and psycho-social well-being: Findings from a national study of community-dwelling aging Canadians.

A growing body of evidence has provided support for the beneficial impact of human-animal interactions on a range of biological, social, and psychological outcomes for humans; however, less is conclusively known about the association between animal companionship and psycho-social health specifically among aging populations. In this study, we assessed the association between animal companionship and psycho-social well-being in a large sample (N = 30,865) of community dwelling Canadians aged 45 and older. Using cross-sectional data from the Canadian Community Health Survey-Healthy Aging, we conducted hierarchical multiple regression to assess the relationship between animal companionship and four domains of psycho-social well-being (satisfaction with life, loneliness, depression, and levels of social support) after controlling for socio-demographic factors and psycho-social measures.
