Background: This research proposes an easy to apply quality assurance pipeline for hyperspectral imaging (HSI) systems used for plant phenotyping. Furthermore, a concept for the analysis of quality assured hyperspectral images to investigate plant disease progress is proposed. The quality assurance was applied to a handheld line scanning HSI-system consisting of evaluating spatial and spectral quality parameters as well as the integrated illumination.

Background: Hirschsprung's disease (HD) is a congenital malformation of the enteric nervous system clinically manifested by intestinal obstruction in the neonatal period or severe constipation in childhood. Several surveys on HD have been conducted to evaluate experiences in its management around the world. For the first time in Brazil, we analyze and report the management patterns of HD among pediatric surgeons in Brazil.

Ship collision risk threatens whales across the world's oceans.

After the near-complete cessation of commercial whaling, ship collisions have emerged as a primary threat to large whales, but knowledge of collision risk is lacking across most of the world's oceans. We compiled a dataset of 435,000 whale locations to generate global distribution models for four globally ranging species. We then combined >35 billion positions from 176,000 ships to produce a global estimate of whale-ship collision risk.

Urogenital Tuberculosis and Delayed Diagnosis: A Qualitative Study.

Objectives: To identify the causes of delayed diagnosis of urogenital tuberculosis (UGT) through a qualitative study of patients with contracted bladder due to UGT.

Background: Oropouche fever, an orthobunyavirus disease endemic in Brazilian Amazon, has caused many febrile epidemics. In 2024, an epidemic of Oropouche fever spread in Brazil, with more than 7930 cases reported between Jan 1 and Aug 31. Infections in pregnant people have suggested the possibility of negative fetal consequences, therefore we tested newborns with microcephaly for known congenital pathogens and Oropouche virus (OROV).

National Variation in Black Immigrant Preterm Births and the Role of County-Level Social Factors.

Preterm birth rates among Black individuals continue to be inequitably high in the USA. Black immigrants appear to have a preterm birth advantage over US-born counterparts. This national cross-sectional study of singleton non-Hispanic Black individuals in the USA from 2011 to 2018 aimed to investigate if the Black immigrant preterm birth advantage varied geographically and how this advantage associated with county-level social drivers of health.

Salivary proteins modulate Candida albicans virulence and may prevent oropharingeal candidiasis.

Oral candidiasis can be presented in different ways due to the virulence factors of its etiology such as Candida albicans that have developed an effective set of these factors that are able to improve its pathogenesis. The role of salivary immunological components in the development of candidiasis can provide insights for the development of new methodologies aiming to control this disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antifungal activity of two salivary components, histatin 5 and lactoferrin on C.

Can Improving Postoperative Sleep Speed Up Surgical Recovery?

Sleep disturbance is common during recovery after surgical procedures and may have an important effect on mortality, and quality of life. Sleep restriction/deprivation, including decreased quantity and continuity, is common in patients who are patients and persons with acute and chronic illnesses. Age, gender, illness, primary sleep disorders, environment, and medical treatment factors are thought to influence sleep throughout the preoperative period, hospitalization, and recovery.

Comparing the impact of conventional and non-conventional processing technologies on water-soluble vitamins and color in strawberry nectar - a pilot scale study.

A comprehensive comparison was conducted on the effect of conventional thermal processing (TT), high-pressure processing (HP), pulse electric field (PF), and ohmic heating (OH) on water-soluble vitamins and color retention in strawberry nectar. The ascorbic acid (AA) content increased by 15- and 9-fold after TT and OH treatment, respectively, due to rupturing of cells under heat stress and release of intracellular AA. Dehydroascorbic acid (DHA) content did not change considerably after TT and PF treatment but significantly decreased after HP and OH treatment.

In our group, we have consolidated the search of anticancer therapies based on natural products derived from plants, obtaining extracts such as P2Et from Caesalpinia spinosa and Anamu-SC from Petiveria alliacea, which have been shown to have antitumor activities in different cancer models.

Chronic reduction of sleep time in children and adolescents has been related to increased incidence of anxiety and depression. In rats, protocols of protracted sleep deprivation or chronic sleep restriction (CSR) are considered a stressor. In previous studies we showed that post-weaning CSR in male rats induces anxiety-like behaviour and changes in neurotransmission in emotion-related brain areas.

Unveiling the overlooked: Current and future distribution dynamics of kissing bugs and palm species linked to oral Chagas disease transmission.

Chagas disease, a neglected global health concern primarily transmitted through the bite and feces of kissing bugs, has garnered increasing attention due to recent outbreaks in northern Brazil, highlighting the role of oral transmission facilitated by the kissing bugs species Rhodnius robustus and Rhodnius pictipes. These vectors are associated with palm trees with large crowns, such as the maripa palm (Attalea maripa) and moriche palm (Mauritia flexuosa). In this study, we employ maximum entropy (MaxEnt) ecological niche models to analyze the spatial distribution of these vectors and palm species, predicting current and future climate suitability.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of using naturally shaded pastures on scrotal thermoregulatory capacity, testicular echotexture, and sperm morphology of Nelore (Bos indicus) and Canchim (5/8 Bos taurus x 3/8 Bos indicus) bulls in a tropical climate region. Sixty-four adult Nelore and Canchim bulls were used, equally allocated in Full Sun (FS, n = 32) or Crop-Livestock-Forestry (CLF, n = 32) pasture systems. During five consecutive climate seasons, the bulls underwent monthly breeding soundness evaluations and the biometeorological variables in the systems were continuously monitored.

Laponite-Modified Biopolymers as a Conformable Substrate for Optoelectronic Devices.

Biopolymers such as carboxymethyl cellulose and hyaluronic acid are alternative substrates for conformable organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). However, drawbacks such as mechanical stress susceptibility can hinder the device's performance under stretched conditions. To overcome these limitations, herein, we developed a nanocomposite based on CMC/HA (carboxymethyl cellulose/hyaluronic acid) and synthetic Laponite, intending to improve the mechanical strength without compromising the film flexibility and transparency (transmittance >80%; 380-700 nm) as substrates for conformable OLEDs.
