Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors with an annual incidence of ~2 cases per million worldwide. The hereditary form is more likely to present in younger patients. To date, PPGL is considered a complex pathology that is difficult to diagnose.

Concerns on the potential problems related to bone healing exists, and most of the surgeon performing SBHTO use bone void filler as associated procedure. This paper aim to evaluate safety and efficacy of SBHTO using locking plate, autologous cancellous bone mobilization and no bone void filler with immediate weight bearing at tolerance protocol.

Methods: The institutional database was mined for primary mUKAs involving an MB or an AP tibial component (MB-UKA and AP-UKA groups, respectively) performed from January 2015 to August 2019. Patient demographics and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were compared and a propensity score matching (PSM) analysis (1:1) using multiple variables was conducted.

Background: Lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD) and increased aortic stiffness are associated with higher mortality in patients with chronic coronary syndrome, while their prognostic significance after an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is less known.
Methods: We analyzed prevalence, clinical phenotypes and association of LEAD - assessed by the ankle-brachial index (ABI) - and increased aortic stiffness - assessed by the aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV) - with all-cause mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients admitted with an ACS.
Results: Among 270 patients admitted for ACS (mean age 67 years, 80% males), 41 (15%) had an ABI ≤0.
As part of an epidemiologic study of the Zika virus (ZIKV) in deer (Cervidae), samples from 56 captive deer in south and southeastern Brazil were tested for evidence of ZIKV. Three samples were positive using reverse-transcription quantitative PCR, although no samples were positive by virus isolation.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtherosclerosis is a cardiovascular disease, accounting for the most common mortality cause worldwide. Notoginsenoside R1 (NGR1) is a characteristic saponin of Radix notoginseng that exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects while modulating lipid metabolism. Evidence suggests that NGR1 exerts cardioprotective, neuroprotective, and anti-atherosclerosis effects.

Breastfeeding is an important determinant of infant health and there is immense interest in understanding its metabolite composition so that key beneficial components can be identified. The aim of this research was to measure the fatty acid composition of human milk in an Irish cohort where we examined changes depending on lactation stage and gestational weight gain trajectory. Utilizing a chromatography approach optimal for isomer separation, we identified 44 individual fatty acid species via GCMS and showed that monomethyl branched-chain fatty acids(mmBCFA's), C15:0 and C16:1 are lower in women with excess gestational weight gain versus low gestational weight gain.

In Italy, leishmaniasis is present in the south and the western coastal regions, with an epidemic peak detected in northern Italy in the early 1970s.AimTo examine temporal trends, and demographic, clinical, geographical and environmental features of human leishmaniasis cases recorded by the local health unit (LHU) of Bologna, northern Italy.

The study was carried out in a crossover design using four adult females in two replicates with an interval of 60 days. Estrus was synchronized with oral melengestrol acetate (MGA) associated with estradiol benzoate and sodium cloprostenol.

While sensors derived from fluorescent proteins represent staple tools in biological imaging, these probes are limited to optically accessible preparations owing to physical curbs on light penetration. In contrast to optical methods, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be used to noninvasively look inside intact organisms at any arbitrary depth and over large fields of view.

Following the secular idea of ″restitutio ad integrum″, regeneration is the pursued option to restore bones lost after a disease; accordingly, complementing antibiotic and regeneration capacity to bone grafts represents a great scientific success. This study is a framework proposal for understanding the antimicrobial effect of biocompatible nano-hydroxyapatite/MoO (nano-HA/MoO) platforms on the basis of their electroactive behavior. Through cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry measurements, the electron transference capacity of nano-HA and nano-HA/MoO electrodes was determined in the presence of pathogenic organisms: and .
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAnterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are among the most common lesions in orthopaedics practice, but still today, rates up to 24% of unsatisfactory results are reported. Unaddressed anterolateral complex (ALC) injuries have been claimed to be responsible for residual anterolateral rotatory instability (ALRI) after isolate ACL reconstruction and have demonstrated to increase graft failure. In this article, we present our technique for reconstruction of the ACL and anterolateral (ALL) ligament combining the advantages of the anatomical position and the intraosseous femoral fixation to ensure anteroposterior and anterolateral rotational stability.

This was demonstrated in several studies, mostly retrospective or based in mathematical models. The objective was to compare mortality in inpatients with COVID-19 related to vaccination.

It consists of a digital video signal processing technique able to amplify enormously the tiny movements recorded in conventional videos, while preserving the general topology of the acquired frames. Though the idea of such a methodology is not new, it has recently been provided with an efficient algorithm that makes possible a viable and low-cost magnification.

Methods: The Management Committee of SITE selected and gathered a multidisciplinary and multiprofessional team including experts in haemoglobinopathies and experts in endocrinopathies, who have been flanked by experts with methodological and organizational expertise, in order to formulate recommendations based on the available scientific evidence integrated by clinical experience. The project followed the systematic approach for the production of clinical practice guidelines according to the methodology suggested by the National Center for Clinical Excellence, Quality and Safety of Care (CNEC).
