Cancer mortality rates have declined during the last 28 years, but that process is not equitably shared. Disparities in cancer outcomes by race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation and gender identity, and geographic location persist across the cancer care continuum. Consequently, community outreach and engagement (COE) efforts within National Cancer Institute-Designated Cancer Center (NCI-DCC) catchment areas have intensified during the last 10 years as has the emphasis on COE and catchment areas in NCI's Cancer Center Support Grant applications.

We present here elevated electron temperature results spatially and temporally coincident with the plasma neutron source. An optical Thomson scattering apparatus designed for the FuZE device measures temperatures in the range of 1-3 keV on the axis of the device, 20 cm downstream of the nose cone.

Background: The assessment of pediatric residents applying to subspecialty fellowship programs relies on faculty letters of recommendation (LOR). However, it is unclear if pediatric faculty are confident that their LOR are effective.
Objective: This study aims to assess the confidence of pediatric faculty in writing an effective LOR for pediatric residents applying to subspecialty fellowship programs.
A diagnostic for extreme ultraviolet spectroscopy was fielded on the sheared-flow-stabilized (SFS) fusion Z-pinch experiment (FuZE-Q) for the first time. The spectrometer collected time-gated plasma emission spectra in the 5-40 nm wavelength (30-250 eV) range for impurity identification, radiative power studies, and for plasma temperature and density measurements. The unique implementation of the diagnostic included fast (10 ns risetime) pulsed high voltage electronics and a multi-stage differential pumping system that allowed the vacuum-coupled spectrometer to collect three independently timed spectra per FuZE-Q shot while also protecting sensitive internal components.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study is to compare clinical and radiographic outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation versus closed reduction and percutaneous pinning of metacarpal fractures in relation to anatomic and surgical variables.
Methods: Electronic medical records at two institutions were reviewed for patients who underwent surgical intervention for metacarpal fractures. Data were collected from those who underwent reduction and internal fixation with either plates or Kirschner wires (K-wires).
A real-time control system has been developed to control the amplitude, phase, and offset of bulk plasma parameters inside an oscillating magnetic helicity injector. Control software running entirely on an Nvidia Tesla P40 graphical processing unit is able to receive digitizer inputs and send response patterns to a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller with a minimum control loop period of 12.8 µs.

There is growing concern that current trends in pediatric pulmonology will lead to a workforce shortage resulting in patients having difficulty accessing subspecialty care. As part of the Pediatric Pulmonology Division Directors Association and Pediatric Pulmonary Training Directors Association Workforce Summit, we examined factors affecting the recruitment of learners into pediatric pulmonary fellowship training (PPFT) programs. The goal of our workgroup was to describe these issues and develop a plan to increase the pipeline of learners who ultimately pursue PPFT.

We present the first experimental results demonstrating sustained, quasi-steady-state neutron production from the fusion Z-pinch experiment, operated with a mixture of 20% deuterium/80% hydrogen by pressure. Neutron emissions lasting approximately 5 μs are reproducibly observed with pinch currents of approximately 200 kA during an approximately 16 μs period of plasma quiescence.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe demonstrate the application of the Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD) for the diagnostic analysis of the nonlinear dynamics of a magnetized plasma in resistive magnetohydrodynamics. The DMD method is an ideal spatio-temporal matrix decomposition that correlates spatial features of computational or experimental data while simultaneously associating the spatial activity with periodic temporal behavior. DMD can produce low-rank, reduced order surrogate models that can be used to reconstruct the state of the system with high fidelity.
