Article Synopsis
  • The CMS experiment conducted a search for heavy right-handed neutrinos and right-handed [Formula: see text] bosons, which are part of theoretical extensions of the standard model of particle physics.
  • This search utilized data from proton-proton collisions at 8[Formula: see text] with an integrated luminosity of 19.7 [Formula: see text], focusing on two lepton plus two jet events.
  • The findings showed that the excluded mass region for these particles at a 95% confidence level is significantly larger than previous studies, especially in the range of neutrino masses below the [Formula: see text] boson mass.

Results are presented from a search for the pair production of third-generation scalar and vector leptoquarks, as well as for top squarks in R-parity-violating supersymmetric models. In either scenario, the new, heavy particle decays into a τ lepton and a b quark. The search is based on a data sample of pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 7 TeV, which is collected by the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.

First measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy of neutral pions produced in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s(NN)] = 2.76 TeV are presented. The amplitudes of the second Fourier component (v(2)) of the π(0) azimuthal distributions are extracted using an event-plane technique.

Article Synopsis
  • A search for supersymmetric processes in proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV was conducted using 11.7 fb of data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC.
  • The study focused on distinguishing events with real versus mismeasured missing transverse energy by analyzing jet counts, their energy sum, and identifying bottom quark jets.
  • Results showed no significant excess of events compared to standard model predictions, leading to exclusion limits for gluino and squark masses, with gluino masses up to 1125 GeV and squark masses up to 600 GeV being ruled out, depending on the specific models considered.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how multi-particle production in proton-proton collisions changes with the number of charged particles produced, focusing on jets and the underlying event.
  • Charged particles are measured based on specific momentum and spatial criteria, and jets are created from these particles while being analyzed alongside data from event generators like Pythia and Herwig.
  • Results show that existing models struggle to accurately predict the observed behavior in the data, particularly at high multiplicities, indicating a need for improved tuning or new elements in theoretical frameworks.

The Suquía River lower-middle basin (Córdoba, Argentina) is subject to a strong anthropic impact because it receives pollutants from different sources (industries, wastewaters, heavy traffic, agricultural land use, etc.) We have assessed the degree of watershed degradation of Suquía River lower-middle sections through the analysis of different ecosystem compartments (air, water, riparian soil, sediments and biota), in order to provide useful data to be considered in future river restoration programs. Four study sites were selected along the river (La Calera city, Córdoba city, Corazón de María village and Río Primero city) which were sampled during the low- and high-water flow periods.

Background: Strain, and particularly Longitudinal Peak Systolic Strain (LPSS), plays a role in investigating the segmental and overall contractility of the heart which is a particularly interesting feature in athletes in whom regular training determines several morphological and functional modifications in both the ventricles, that normally work at different loads. Speckle tracking techniques assess the LPSS of LV and RV from B-mode imaging in real time, with uniform accuracy in all segments, and can verify the possible dissimilar segmental contributions of the two chambers to overall myocardial contraction. The aim of the study is to quantify the LPSS in real time in both the ventricles in order to estimate any possible different deformation properties in them during a systolic period.
