There was a greater than 50% decline in central nervous system (CNS) drug discovery and development programs by major pharmaceutical companies from 2009 to 2014. This decline was paralleled by a rise in the number of university led drug discovery centers, many in the CNS area, and a growth in the number of public-private drug discovery partnerships. Diverse operating models have emerged as the academic drug discovery centers adapt to this changing ecosystem.

In this study, the contribution to LTA transcriptional regulation of the region between the transcription and translation start sites (downstream segment) was investigated. The LTA downstream segment was found to be required for, and alone to be sufficient for, maximal transcriptional activity in both T and B lymphocytes.

The aim of this pilot study was to determine whether polymorphisms in tumor necrosis factor (TNF), lymphotoxin alpha (LTA) and transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGFB1) showed any association with aGVHD severity. Novel alleles and polymorphisms were identified for each cytokine locus.
