Effective Mucosal Adjuvantation of the Intranasal Enterovirus A71 Vaccine With Zymosan.

Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) has caused hand, foot, and mouth disease with an increased prevalence of neurological complications and acute mortality, threatening young children around the globe. By provoking mucosal immunity, intranasal vaccination has been suggested to prevent EV-A71 infection. However, antigens delivered via the nasal route usually fail to induce a protective memory response.

Use of Intraoperative Hemostatic Checklists for Blood Management in Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery: A Scoping Review.

Background: Using intraoperative hemostatic checklists may improve rates of surgical re-exploration and utilization of allogenic blood products in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. In this review, the authors explore the current evidence describing the impact of using intraoperative hemostatic checklists on reducing rates of surgical bleeding and perioperative blood product transfusion in this group of patients.

Methods: Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, electronic information was obtained via sources that included Scopus, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library.

Adipose stem-cell-derived microvesicles ameliorate long-term bladder ischemia-induced bladder underactivity.

Background/purpose: The mechanism for long-term hypoxia/ischemia induced bladder underactivity is uncertain. It requires an effectively therapeutic treatment. Therefore, we determined the pathophysiologic mechanisms of long-term bilateral partial iliac arterial occlusion (BPAO)-induced bladder underactivity and explored the therapeutic potential of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and ADSC-derived microvesicles (MVs) on BPAO-induced bladder dysfunction.

Barriers to and facilitators of breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening and cancer screening histories of Métis people in Alberta, Canada.

Comprehensive evaluation of cancer screening activities based on individual experiences is urgently needed to address the burden of cancer among Métis people. In this co-designed and co-led study, a cancer screening questionnaire developed for Métis people to evaluate their cancer screening histories and to explore barriers and facilitators to cancer screening was used. Adult Métis Albertans were invited to participate in the anonymous survey through a multi-modal strategy used for community consultations.
