Purpose: Studies on antihypertensive treatment are important, as hypertension remains the major risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and premature death. However, antihypertensive medicines are also used for other conditions, and the use of these medicines as a proxy for a diagnosis of hypertension might lead to misclassification in pharmacoepidemiological studies. This study aimed to investigate to what extent people dispensed antihypertensive medicines have been diagnosed with hypertension.

Initiation of Anticoagulants During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Sweden: An Interrupted Time Series Analysis.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have increased anticoagulant initiation due to the thrombogenic nature of the disease or decreased due to the societal impact of the pandemic. We aimed to study the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on initiation of anticoagulants in Sweden. We conducted a single interrupted time series analysis on the monthly cumulative incidence of nonvitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOAC), warfarin, or heparins, before and after March 2020, using SCIFI-PEARL dataset.

Environmental sustainability-an essential component of rational use of medicines.

Human-use medicines are introduced into surface water throughout their entire life cycle, from manufacturing and consumption to improper disposal, resulting in negative effects on aquatic flora and fauna. Sustainability approaches have addressed this issue, proposing frameworks like the One Health approach. A revised definition of the rational use of medicines has also been proposed, taking into account their environmental sustainability.

A Cross-Sectional Study Identifying Medication Adherence Technologies (MATech) in Sweden Using Behavior Change Techniques.

Background: Poor medication adherence is a well-recognized problem, and behavior change techniques (BCTs) have shown promise in improving patient adherence to prescribed drug treatment. Through the utilization of medication adherence technologies (MATech), these BCT interventions could be delivered effectively in a person-centered way. MATech can be defined as systems, services or physical devices (hardware), with a digital component, used to support patients in their drug utilization.
