A 25-yr-old obese parturient with mild asthma underwent an uneventful spinal anesthetic for primary cesarean delivery. Within 4 h after delivery, the patient twice developed acute shortness of breath, inspiratory stridor, and hypoxemia that required intubation. A battery of blood tests revealed no evidence of an allergic reaction.

To evaluate the analgesic efficacy of local anesthetic infiltration, 20 parturients scheduled for elective minilaparotomy and bilateral tubal ligation with either spinal or epidural anesthesia participated in this prospective, randomized, controlled, double-blind trial. All patients received IV metoclopramide 10 mg and ketorolac 60 mg intraoperatively, as well as preincisional infiltration of the infraumbilical skin incision with 0.

We investigated using receiver-operating characteristic analysis the accuracy of histopathologic diagnoses with and without pathologist review of radiographs. While accuracy of diagnosis did improve when the radiographs were reviewed by the pathologist, this increase did not reach statistical significance (P=0.

A single dose of epidural morphine (4 mg) decreases postcesarean opioid analgesic requirements and may reduce or prevent neonatal neurobehavioral depression associated with PCA meperidine. Prospectively, 102 term parturients underwent cesarean delivery with epidural anesthesia, 2% lidocaine and epinephrine 1:200,000.
