Background: Ambulance services treat over 32,000 patients sustaining an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest annually, receiving over 90,000 calls. The definitive treatment for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is defibrillation. Prompt treatment with an automated external defibrillator can improve survival significantly.

Gut microbiome changes with micronutrient supplementation in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder: the MADDY study.

Micronutrients have demonstrated promise in managing inattention and emotional dysregulation in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). One plausible pathway by which micronutrients improve symptoms is the gut microbiome. This study examines changes in fecal microbial composition and diversity after micronutrient supplementation in children with ADHD ( = 44) and highlights potential mechanisms responsible for the behavioral improvement, as determined by blinded clinician-rated global improvement response to micronutrients.

Understanding the uncommon: Insights into thymoma associated immunodeficiency.

Background: Thymoma-associated immunodeficiency (TAI) is a rare, acquired adult-onset immunodeficiency. It includes the classic form of Good syndrome (GS), characterized by thymoma and hypogammaglobulinemia, as well as a non-classic form of GS. This condition leads to specific or combined deficiencies in both B- and T-cells, causing considerable morbidity and mortality, although the underlying immunopathology is still not well understood.

Temporal trends of the utilization patterns of sedative-hypnotic medications in children, adolescents and young adults: a 21-year population-based study with joinpoint regression analysis.

Background: There is limited research on real-world utilization patterns of benzodiazepines and Z-drugs (collectively-termed benzodiazepine-receptor agonists [BZRAs]) in children and adolescents, particularly in non-western countries. We aimed to examine temporal trends of BZRA prescribing-practice among children, adolescents and young adults in Hong Kong over a 21-year period.

Methods: This population-based study identified 60,660 individuals aged 4-24 years who had redeemed ≥ 1 BZRA prescription within 2000-2020, using data from medical-record database of Hong Kong public-healthcare-services.

Vascular encasement image defined risk factors independently predict surgical complications in neuroblastoma.

Background: Specific image defined risk factors (IDRF) immediately prior to surgery may be more relevant to paediatric oncology surgeons than pre-neoadjuvant IDRFs at diagnosis. The aim of this study was to determine IDRF subtypes that independently predict postoperative complications.

Methods: We searched the New Zealand Children's Cancer Registry for all cases of neuroblastoma treated at a single paediatric oncology centre between January 2007 and February 2021 and determined the IDRF status on pre-operative imaging at diagnosis and after neoadjuvant therapy.
