The assessment of caveolin-1 (Cav-1) as a marker of tumor aggressiveness in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). In this study, we examined the expression of Cav-1 in 34 human PDAC tissue samples and the associated peritumoral tissues by immunohistochemistry and western blot. Additionally, we correlated Cav-1 expression with other tissue (Ki-67, p53) and serum (CA 19-9) tumor markers.

Hepatic stem cells can be identified by the expression of putative markers such as CD117 (c-kit), CD90 (Thy-1), CD34, and HLA-DR. We have identified populations expressing these markers in both fetal and tumoral human liver by flow cytometry, using monoclonal antibodies against CD90, CD117, CD34, and HLA-DR. In tumoral liver CD117+/CD90+ cells were found in decreasing number from the neoplastic (2.

In agreement with previous reports, we found that the bilirubin level is significantly lower in the blood of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) than in age and sex matched controls. However, we found that the level of bilirubin in the blood seemed to be an age-dependent phenomenon and closely related to the activation of leukocytes. In 1,000 cardiac catheterized patients from Urbana.

Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) of the brain describes the neuroprotection induced by a short, conditioning ischemic episode (CIE) to a subsequent severe (test) ischemic episode (TIE). Most of the supporting evidence for IPC is based on histological assessment, several days after TIE. The aim of this study is to investigate if changes induced by IPC can be detected within 30 min of reperfusion following the ischemic episode.

We analysed the spatial and temporal distribution of apoptosis in human cerebellum development, during embryonic and fetal periods. Cerebella excised from two human embryos (8 weeks old) and eight fetuses (12-22 weeks old), were paraffin embedded and serially sectioned. Apoptotic cells were identified by propidium iodide staining, and TUNEL.
