Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) affect patient health. Patients with Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) acquired viral respiratory infections had longer use of respiratory support. We found it's uncommon in ICUs to have high risk HAIs.

Background: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza infections are a major cause of hospitalization and intensive care unit (ICU) admission to children's hospitals and are closely tracked. We compared data over 6 seasons of human metapneumovirus (hMPV), RSV and influenza infections.

Methods: During the 2014-2019 winter viral seasons, hMPV, RSV and influenza infections were tracked.

Radiation protection factor (RPF) values are relevant to various US defense and civil support organizations. An equation was developed to quantify the angular-dependent protection of a shielding configuration in the presence of a mono-energetic radiation field. Values of ambient dose equivalent, H*(10), were computed with version 6.

Positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) of α7 nAChRs can have different properties with respect to their effects on channel kinetics. Type I PAMs amplify peak channel response to acetylcholine but do not appear to influence channel desensitization kinetics, whereas Type II PAMs both increase channel response and delay receptor desensitization. Both Type I and Type II PAMs are reported in literature, but there are limited reports describing their structure-kinetic profile relationships.

In a sample of children with traumatic brain injury, this magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based investigation examined whether presence of a focal lesion uniquely influenced cortical thickness in any brain region. Specifically, the study explored the relation of cortical thickness to injury severity as measured by Glasgow Coma Scale score and length of stay, along with presence of encephalomalacia, focal white matter lesions or presence of hemosiderin deposition as a marker of shear injury. For comparison, a group of children without head injury but with orthopedic injury of similar age and sex were also examined.
