Background/aims: Carcinoid tumors are common tumors in the gastrointestinal tract. Varicose vein abnormalities involving the lesser saphenous vein of a 7-year-old boy are presented. The histopathology of the vein wall revealed a vacuolar degeneration without mucoid deposits of the muscle cells, which has not been described previously in the literature in congenital varices.
