Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate racial and ethnic disparities in the rates of inferior vena cava filter (IVCF) placements among Black and Latino patients with acute proximal lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the U.S. from 2016 to 2019.
  • It analyzed data from 134,499 DVT patients, finding that 14.1% received IVCFs, with the majority being White (67.3%), followed by Black (18.8%) and Latino (8.9%) patients.
  • The results showed a decrease in IVCF placements across all groups over time, with significant statistical disparities in placement rates, particularly noting that Black patients had higher rates (11-12/100,000

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are rare cells that arise in the embryo and sustain adult hematopoiesis. Although the functional potential of nascent HSCs is detectable by transplantation, their native contribution during development is unknown, in part due to the overlapping genesis and marker gene expression with other embryonic blood progenitors. Using single-cell transcriptomics, we define gene signatures that distinguish nascent HSCs from embryonic blood progenitors.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a treatment for many malignant, congenital, and acquired hematologic diseases. Some outstanding challenges in the HSCT field include the paucity of immunologically-matched donors, our inability to effectively expand hematopoeitic stem cells (HSCs) ex vivo, and the high infection risk during engraftment. Scientists are striving to develop protocols to generate, expand, and maintain HSCs ex vivo, however these are not yet ready for clinical application.

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) disease activity is associated with blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption, which is mediated by inflammatory cytokines released by CD4+ lymphocytes. To assess the effects of adenosine A2A receptors on BBB permeability in vitro and in vivo.

Methods: A2A receptor expression was detected by immunostaining in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) C57BL/6 mice immunized with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) , and human MS brain.

Objectives: To determine the percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) effects on the tissues using the quantification of inflammatory mediators, and to assess their impact on the development of postoperative complications.

Patients And Methods: Prospective observational non-randomized study on 40 patients underwent to PCNL. 50 patients with kidney stone who were treated by extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) were used as control group.
