[Thromboembolic venous disease as a first sign of neoplastic disease--a case report].

Venous thromboembolism is a one of the most common complications of cancer, which contributes to mortality in cancer patients. The prognosis of cancer patients with thrombosis is significantly worse. Venous thromboembolism can be the first manifestation of occult cancer.

[Gastric sarcoidosis -- a case report].

Gastrointestinal sarcoidosis is very rare manifestation of the illness. This article presents patient who had been diagnosed for several months because of abdominal pain, vomiting and significant weight loss. Numerous gastric endoscopy examinations showed the difficult healing ulcers in the stomach, progressive thickening of the mucosal folds with narrowing of the lumen, lack of peristalsis and the rigidity of the walls.

[Change of patients profile hospitalized because of pulmonary sarcoidosis in Department of Pneumonology in Zabrze (Poland) in 1976-80 and in 1996-2000].

The comparision of two groups of patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis hospitalized in Department of Pneumonology Silesian Medical School of Medicine in Zabrze in 1976-1980 (n=120) and 20 years later i.e. in 1986-2000 (n=190) was done.

[Insulin sensitivity in NIDDM patients with normo- and microalbuminuria].

There is contradictory information relating to insulin sensitivity in NIDDM patients with microalbuminuria. The numerous clinical and epidemiological investigations have revealed a greater insulin resistance in these patients. However on the ground of the Nielsen and co-workers observations it has been ascertained that the level of insulin sensitivity is similar in exactly selected NIDDM patients with normo- and microalbuminuria.

[Gastric motility disorders in diabetes. I. Pathophysiology, symptomatology and methods for additional testing].

The application of novel investigative techniques has contributed to an increased understanding of the prevalence, pathophysiology and treatment of disordered gastric motility in diabetes. Abnormal gastric emptying, particularly delayed emptying, occurs frequently and the rate of gastric emptying is influenced by the blood glucose concentration. Disordered gastric motility is likely to be responsible for most upper gastrointestinal symptoms in diabetic patients, but the mechanisms by which abnormal motility leads to symptoms are poorly understood.
