Background: Rash is a common epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor-induced toxicity that can impair quality of life and treatment compliance.
Objective: We sought to evaluate the efficacy of doxycycline in preventing erlotinib-induced rash (folliculitis) in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer.
Methods: This open-label, randomized, prospective, phase II trial was conducted in 147 patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer progressing after first-line chemotherapy, randomized for 4 months with erlotinib alone 150 mg/d per os (control arm) or combined with doxycycline 100 mg/d (doxycycline arm).
EGFR and HER2 mutations and ALK rearrangement are known to be related to lung cancer in never-smokers, while KRAS, BRAF and PIK3CA mutations are typically observed among smokers. There is still debate surrounding whether never-smokers exposed to passive smoke exhibit a "smoker-like" somatic profile compared with unexposed never-smokers. Passive smoke exposure was assessed in the French BioCAST/IFCT-1002 never-smoker lung cancer cohort and routine molecular profiles analyses were compiled.

Unlabelled: The concentrations of cefodizime (HR 221, CAS 69739-16-8) in bronchial secretions were measured after administration of a single intravenous bolus of 2 g in 19 patients requiring fibreoptic bronchoscopy for diagnostic purposes or as therapeutic follow-up. These concentrations, which were obtained in absence of inflammation of the mucosa, were compared to serum concentrations obtained simultaneously. The penetration into bronchial secretions was rapid, maximum levels of between 1 and 5 mg/kg being already observed 1 h after injection.
