The role of serum biomarkers in determining systemic inflammation and cardiovascular risk in pseudoexfoliation syndrome.

Purpose: To investigate the role of hematological and atherogenic biomarkers in evaluating systemic inflammation and cardiovascular risk in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome.

Methods: This retrospective study included 200 patients, 90 with pseudoexfoliation (PEX) syndrome (Group 1) and 110 healthy controls (Group 2). Twelve-hour fasting blood samples were collected to measure complete blood count, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte/lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) (neutrophil x platelet/lymphocyte), systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) (neutrophil x monocyte/lymphocyte), pan-immune inflammation value (PIV) (neutrophil x platelet x monocyte/lymphocyte), C-reactive protein (CRP), uric acid, glucose, triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, non-HDL, and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index (Ln (TG [mg/dL] × glucose [mg/dL]/2)).

Bilateral epithelial keratopathy and punctate keratitis due to ribociclib.

Introduction: This report describes a rare occurrence of corneal epithelial keratopathy associated with ribociclib, a cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 (CDK4/6) inhibitor widely used in breast cancer treatment.

Case Report: An 83-year-old female with a recent breast cancer diagnosis presented with blurred vision during the third cycle of ribociclib treatment. Ocular examination revealed corneal epitheliopathy and fluorescein staining findings.

Feed form and perch design do not interact to production performance, gastrointestinal tract traits, behaviour and welfare of laying hens reared in enriched cages.

1. It was hypothesised that perch material and design may affect utility and maintenance energy demand in laying hens, affecting their feed form preferences and daily feed consumption. Accordingly, perch design and feed form on hen performance, gastrointestinal tract functions and some behavioural and welfare-related traits were studied in laying hens (ATAK-S) reared in enriched colony cages from 24 to 40 weeks of age.

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia endophthalmitis following keratoplasty.

Endophthalmitis is among the most sight-threatening infections in ophthalmology practice. Many microorganisms causing endophthalmitis have been reported. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is among the rare causes of endophthalmitis and has been reported after cataract surgery, intravitreal injections and ocular trauma.

The effect of Nd:YAG Laser applied in the posterior capsule opacification on retinal and choroidal structures.

Purpose: To assess the effect of neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd-YAG) laser procedure on the choroid and retina in patients who developed posterior capsular opacification (PCO) after cataract surgery.

Methods: In this study, 32 eyes of 30 patients who underwent Nd:YAG laser treatment for PCO were evaluated. Visual acuity (VA), intraocular pressure (IOP), central macular thickness (CMT) with optical coherence tomography device (OCT), ganglion cell layer (GCL), inner plexiform layer (IPL), retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and subfoveal choroidal thickness (SCT) were measured.
