Validation of the synthetic model for the imaging heavy ion beam probe at the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak (invited).

Recent experiments at the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak have provided the first ever measurements from the imaging heavy-ion beam probe. In this work, we show that the developed simulation framework can reproduce qualitatively the measurement's observed shape and position. Quantitatively, we demonstrate that the model reproduces, within the experimental uncertainties, the observed signal levels.

First measurements of an imaging heavy ion beam probe at the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak.

The imaging heavy ion beam probe (i-HIBP) diagnostic has been successfully commissioned at ASDEX Upgrade. The i-HIBP injects a primary neutral beam into the plasma, where it is ionized, leading to a fan of secondary (charged) beams. These are deflected by the magnetic field of the tokamak and collected by a scintillator detector, generating a strike-line light pattern that encodes information on the density, electrostatic potential, and magnetic field of the plasma edge.

Insulin-degrading enzyme higher in subjects with metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is comprised of a cluster of abnormalities in glucose, lipid, and vascular homeostasis, which is most commonly linked to abdominal obesity. MS heralds increased risk for development of diabetes and is linked to impairment in insulin signaling. Insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE) is one of the mechanisms through which insulin blood levels are maintained.

A Cross-sectional Survey on the Preference of Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis for Route of Administration of Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs: Oral Target-Specific Versus Parenteral Biologic.

Background: Guidelines recommend initiation of parenteral biologic or oral target-specific disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs/tsDMARDs) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients who do not adequately respond to conventional DMARDs.

Objectives: To compare the preferred route of administration of bDMARDs or tsDMARDs in RA patients who were previously treated with at least one type.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted of consecutive RA patients previously prescribed bDMARDs or tsDMARDs.

Sudden onset of temporomandibular joint swelling and limited mouth opening: a rare case of ganglion cyst.

Preauricular swelling followed by limited mouth opening can be a challenging diagnosis. All anatomical structures and related pathologies should be examined. A 41-year-old woman presented to the Emergency Room complaining of limited mouth opening, severe pain that was worse on chewing, and swelling over her right temporomandibular joint (TMJ) that had started 3 days previously.
