The alveolar-capillary gas metabolism was studied in 60 patients with acute myocardial infarction. Arterial hypoxemia and hypocapnia were observed in the majority of the patients. Those disturbances are more pronounced in the presence of cardiac insufficiency.

A moderate hypoxemia was established as well as hypocapnia and high alveolar-aterial gradient for O2 pressure. The rest of the indices for gas and blood distribution in lungs do not reveal considerable deviations from the norm.
