Based on the activity of dopamine (DA) neurons during behavioral states, the DA system has long been thought to be foundational in regulating sleep-wake behavior; over the past decade advances in circuit manipulation and recording techniques have strengthened this perspective. Recently, several studies have demonstrated that DA release in regions of the limbic system is important in the promotion of REM sleep. Yet how DA dynamics change within bouts of sleep, how these changes are regulated, and whether they influence future state changes remains unclear.

Epidemiological data on vitamin D status revealed that, despite various dosage and durations of supplementation, the effectiveness often fails to achieve optimal outcomes. The need for higher doses than previously recommended was suggested, but several modifying factors should be considered, including the level of deficiency, and BMI. The objectives of this post hoc evaluation are to characterize treatment effectiveness based on the applied dose, duration and BMI; and to assess the safety aspects associated with rapid repletion of vitamin D.

Methods: In this prospective multicenter experimental study, human preimplantation embryo spent media were collected after blastocyst formation, grouped based on successful or unsuccessful implantation, and analyzed by protein array or used to stimulate monocyte derived dendritic cells (moDC). The immunomodulatory properties of SM on moDC were investigated by analyzing changes in phenotype, cytokine secretion, indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) activity, and ability to activate T cells.
