Background: Pulmonary exacerbations in cystic fibrosis (CF) significantly impact morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to assess treatment response rates and identify contributing factors towards treatment response.
Methods: In this single-center, retrospective, longitudinal study spanning four years, we analyzed all pulmonary exacerbation admissions.

Objective: African Americans progress from early to late-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) at a rate that is three times that of Whites. Given research that implicates social stress in poor kidney outcomes, there is a need to examine whether race-related stress contributes to these disparities. Through experimental manipulation, this study sought to determine whether acute race-related stress was associated with autonomic arousal and an inflammatory marker, which are well-established pathways to poor kidney outcomes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn the work presented here, we investigated how bromodomain-containing protein 7 (BRD7), a subunit associated with switch/sucrose non-fermentable (SWI/SNF) chromatin remodelling complexes, is trafficked between cellular compartments during embryo development. SWI/SNF complexes are multi-subunit complexes that contain a core catalytic subunit (SWI/SNF related, Matrix associated, Actin dependent Regulator of Chromatin, subfamily A, member 4, or member 2; SMARCA4 or SMARCA2) and a collection of additional subunits that guide the complexes to their appropriate loci; BRD7 is one of these additional subunits. We hypothesised that BRD7 is exported from the nuclei of porcine oocytes and embryos in a Chromosome Region Maintenance 1 (CRM1)-dependent manner and imported into the nuclei using the karyopherin α/β1 heterodimer.

We have optimized a murine-based embryonic midbrain micromass system in two genetic strains to evaluate neurodevelopmental effects of gold-cored silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) of differing sizes and coatings-20 nm AgCitrate, 110 nm AgCitrate, and 110 nm AgPVP. AgNPs are increasingly used in consumer, commercial, and medical products for their antimicrobial properties and observations of Ag in adult and fetal brain following in vivo exposures to AgNPs have led to concerns about the potential for AgNPs to elicit adverse effects on neurodevelopment and neurological function.
