Simulium asakoae Takaoka and Davies has been confirmed to bite humans and has been incriminated as a vector of blood protozoan parasites of the genera Leucocytozoon and Trypanosoma, as well as an unknown filarial parasite in Thailand. However, its attraction to humans has remained uninvestigated in Malaysia. Recently, 27 black flies were collected in Pahang, Malaysia, of which 25 were captured in CO-baited Malaise traps and two were collected from humans during trapping activity.

The Safety of Aztreonam Versus Ceftazidime in Patients Labeled With Penicillin Allergy: A Cohort Study.

Purpose: Penicillin allergy is the most common drug allergy among hospitalized patients. Traditionally, aztreonam is recommended for patients labeled with penicillin allergy (PLWPA) in our institutional empirical antibiotic guidelines. Due to a global aztreonam shortage in December 2022, the antimicrobial stewardship unit recommended ceftazidime as a substitute.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a mosquito-borne alphavirus with widespread distribution across the globe. Since 2016, CHIKV re-emerged in several countries including Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. A proper diagnostic tool for early diagnosis of CHIKV infection is crucial to facilitate patient management and control virus transmission at the earliest stage of outbreak.

Hepatic artery aneurysms are a rare phenomenon but their diagnosis and prompt treatment are imperative due to a high risk of mortality and complications. Appropriate management depends on patient characteristics, anatomical location of the aneurysm, operative risk and collateral arterial supply. Management options include surgical and endovascular approaches.
