Purpose: Parent engagement is a critical component of optimizing services for young children with disabilities, including those with language disorders. Without training, however, many parents may lack the knowledge and skills to effectively facilitate their children's language development during the essential early childhood years. The Parents Plus intervention was designed to support parents, through online training and coaching, in using focused stimulation, an evidence-based strategy for fostering early language development.

Defining the physiological role of a gene product relies on interpreting phenotypes caused by the lack, or alteration, of the respective gene product. Mutations in critical genes often lead to easily recognized phenotypes that can include changes in cellular growth, metabolism, structure etc. However, mutations in many important genes may fail to generate an obvious defect unless additional perturbations are caused by medium or genetic background.

Code- and meaning-related emergent literacy skills of autistic children were compared to those of non-autistic children who did not differ on age and full-scale IQ (FSIQ). The associations between joint attention skills and early literacy abilities were of interest. Seventeen autistic and 20 non-autistic children (48 to 72 months) participated.
