Percutaneous Vertebroplasty (PV) has gained widespread popularity in the treatment of Vertebral Body Fractures (VBFs). The procedure involves the injection of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cement into the fractured vertebral body via a needle that is placed percutaneously using either a transpedicular or extrapedicular approach. Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) evaluation is a widespread method of measure of the disease severity and the outcome of the treatment.

The management of common bile duct stones in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

The management of suspected and/or unsuspected common bile duct (CBD) stones in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is controversial. Decisions on whether to perform an open CBD exploration versus employing therapeutic options such as preoperative/post-operative endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERCP) or endoscopic duct exploration are polemic. To determine indications, timing, benefits, and potential morbidity of these approaches, we gathered data on 401 patients undergoing LC within the last 18 months.

Polypeptides that inhibit human breast cancer cell division.

Medium sized (10-15 amino acids) polypeptides isolated from normal human urine inhibit the growth of five established cell lines of human mammary cancer. Cytostatic and cytotoxic effects are dose dependent and reversible at lower doses. Evidence suggests a block to cell division in S phase.

Twenty-one patients with advanced cancer or leukemia were treated with antineoplaston A and followed for up to nine months. Dosage by intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, rectal, intrapleural, intravesical and/or topical administration ranged from 0.6 to 33 U/m2/24 h.
