Ninety end-to-end entero-anastomoses were prepared in 45 dogs by inverted single row knotted sutures. Half of the anastomoses were carried out on the small intestine, the other half on the colon. Of the two non-absorbable materials that of the polyester type proved to be the best.

Segment resection was performed in 15 dogs. The resected surface was covered with absorbable cellulose bioplast (Surgicel)R and fixed by the tissue adhesive Histoacryl-N-Blau. The results were checked by gross and microscopic examinations which showed that the gradually absorbed material had been replaced by a layer of connective tissue.

After surveying the problem of pancreas transplantation the results of pancreatico-duodenal transplantation attempts performed on dogs and 20 pigs are reported. Surgically, the major pancreatic duct is anastomosed to a Roux' loop using a preserved duodenal patch around the papilla. The graft is sited unto the retroperitoneal space.

Autologous and allogenic transplantations of the caudal part of the pancreas into the omentum and the spleen were performed in 18 dogs. The fate of the transplants was followed histologically. In the grafts the Langerhans-islands preserved their integrity longer than in the other parts of the organ, but in 4 to 6 weeks they, too, necrotised.
