Navigating the wild west: a review of guidance on clinical communications using personal BYOD, IM and third-party apps in the UK and Ireland.

Introduction: The ubiquity of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) personal smartphones, Instant Messaging (IM), and third-party apps, has made these technologies compelling for efficient communications between clinicians regarding patient care. However, the sensitivity of patient-related information necessitates secure, GDPR compliant modalities that prevent unauthorised access and ensure confidentiality. This scoping review explores existing guidelines, policies, and regulations that advise clinicians in the UK and Ireland on the secure use of these digital communication tools.

Brief Report: Transition Preparation and Post-Transition Evaluation Practices at Adult Clinics That Care for Young Adults With Perinatally Acquired HIV in Massachusetts, United States.

Background: Most young adults with perinatal HIV (PHIV) transition from pediatric or adolescent to adult clinical care. Although guidelines to increase transition success have been recommended, we know little about uptake of these guidelines, particularly by adult care clinics.

Methods: We administered web-based surveys to adult care providers of young adults with PHIV in Massachusetts to evaluate transition preparation and post-transition evaluation practices.

Mortality, Hepatic Decompensation, and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Lean vs. Non-lean MASLD Cirrhosis: A Veterans Affairs Cohort Study.

Background And Aims: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has a global prevalence of 25%. Studies on incident liver and cardiovascular outcomes in lean (Body mass index: BMI < 25 kg/m, or < 23 kg/m for Asians) vs. non-lean individuals with MASLD have reported mixed results.

Case Finding and Management of Childhood Cataracts: The Role of a Child Eye Health Programme in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Objective: To evaluate the output of a child eye health programme in terms of identification, referral, and volume of paediatric cataract surgeries in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective review of the North-West Nigeria Child Eye Health Initiative programme referral registers at primary, secondary and tertiary hospitals in Kaduna State. Theatre registers of children 0-16 years who had cataract surgery at National Eye Centre Kaduna between 2016 and 2019 were also reviewed.

Validation and Epidemiologic Definition of the Novel Steatotic Liver Disease Nomenclature in a National United States Cohort With Cirrhosis.

Background & Aims: Novel steatotic liver disease (SLD) definitions were introduced in 2023. Accurate and meaningful classifications using clinical data are needed to study interventions and outcomes.

Methods: In a national cohort of Veterans with cirrhosis and imaging-confirmed steatosis, 7 algorithms differentially emphasizing cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs) and alcohol exposure were developed to define alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD), metabolic dysfunction associated SLD (MASLD), and MASLD with increased alcohol intake (MetALD).
