- Researchers evaluated serum samples from 251 children in endemic areas and 188 hospital outpatients in Ethiopia to measure specific IgG4 antibodies related to Schistosoma mansoni.
- Patients with schistosomiasis (140 individuals) showed significantly higher levels of IgG4 antibodies than normal controls (30 individuals) and those infected with other parasites (114 individuals).
- The study demonstrates that dried blood samples on filter paper can be used for testing and compares this immunoassay method to traditional parasitological diagnostic techniques.
