The 45 patients long-term benzodiazepine users were analyzed because of the diagnosis, the purpose of benzodiazepine onset, the management of benzodiazepine discontinuation and katamnestic examination. Most of the patients suffered from anxiety disorders or mixed anxiety-depressive disorders and they could be successfully with antidepressive drugs treated. Benzodiazepines were also often used without any clinical reason.

It has been found that the most important increase of body weight occurred in the groups of patients treated with amitriptyline and doxepin. In the group of insidone the increase of weight was not so high as in the previous groups.
