Background: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare glandular malignancy, commonly originating in salivary glands of the head and neck. Given its protracted growth, ACC is usually diagnosed in advanced stage. Treatment of ACC is limited to surgery and/or adjuvant radiotherapy, which often fails to prevent disease recurrence, and no FDA-approved targeted therapies are currently available.

In the current study, we investigated whether pharmacologic inhibition of PRMT5 downregulates DDR/DNA replication pathway genes and sensitizes cancer cells to chemotherapy and PARP inhibition. Potent and selective PRMT5 inhibitors significantly downregulate expression of multiple DDR and DNA replication genes in cancer cells.

Given the crucial role of ACE2, being the main target for virus entry into the cell, the potential consequences of ACE2 up-regulation have been a source of debate. The aim of this retrospective cohort study on COVID-19-positive patients who died is to investigate whether previous long-term exposure to ACE-I and/or ARB was associated with higher mortality due to COVID-19 infection, compared to all other types of drug treatment.
