Article Synopsis
  • Health workers (HWs) at a cancer center in France were studied to assess their immune response to SARS-CoV-2 over a year, starting in March 2020 when they had no active infections or COVID-19 symptoms.
  • The study involved blood tests and self-questionnaires at three intervals: at inclusion, and at 3 and 12 months, while the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection among HWs increased over time but remained low overall (3.5% to 10% across different phases).
  • By the end of the 12-month study, 93.3% of participants had detectable antibodies, and the low seropositivity rate was attributed to strict health policies, adherence to safety

Unlabelled: This French multicenter prospective cohort study recruited 391 patients to investigate the risk factors for persistent pain after elective cesarean delivery, focusing on psychosocial aspects adjusted for other known medical factors. Perioperative data were collected and specialized questionnaires were completed to assess reports of pain at the site of surgery. Three dependent outcomes were considered: pain at the third month after surgery (M3, n = 268; risk = 28%), pain at the sixth month after surgery (M6, n = 239; risk = 19%), and the cumulative incidence (up to M6) of neuropathic pain, as assessed using the Douleur Neuropathique 4 questionnaire (n = 218; risk = 24.

Background: Epileptiform discharges (ED) can occur during sevoflurane induction, especially in young female patients and when high alveolar concentrations are used. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether low sevoflurane concentration reduces the occurrence of ED in female patients.

Methods: Thirty-four female patients scheduled for minor gynecological surgery were prospectively included and randomized in two groups.

Type 2B von Willebrand disease (vWD) is an inherited bleeding syndrome resulting from a qualitative abnormality of von Willebrand Factor with an increased affinity for the glycoprotein Ib platelet receptor. Pregnancy increases the severity of this disease by decreasing the platelet count restricting epidural anaesthesia because of adverse risk of spinal bleeding. There is a phenotypic variability of Type 2B vWD depending of the von Willebrand Factor mutation.

Significant fetal bradycardia occurred when a parturient receiving labor epidural analgesia experienced generalized numbness and tingling, a metallic taste and hot flushes. An emergent cesarean delivery under general anesthesia was performed with favorable outcomes for the mother and baby. The most likely source of the maternal symptoms was spiramycin, which was being administered for treatment of toxoplasmosis.
